Why they replaced a perfectly fine taxi rank at Melbourne airport with this uber pick up thing is beyond me.

Normally you want to create an improved experience but this feels like doing everything possible to make it worse.

Taxi rank with zoned fares or fixed quotes via app.

Visiting my parents at the moment - who live at the edge of a big national Park in Sydney. Happened across this well fed bugger sunning itself today.

I grew up here & have always come across snakes but far fewer since I was a kid. So great to see such a healthy one again.

My play queue is long and my spare time is short, but I *finally* played through GRIS over the last few weeks.

What a stunningly beautiful and emotive game. We so need more of these.

Also, 😭😭😭

I'm doing a survey on how engineering teams use AI in their work practices. Over 50 orgs have participated but would love a bigger cross section of responses.

If you can take 5 mins to fill it in that would be awesome but a share would be great too!

some time back I built this little border radius visualizer to help figure out how some complex shapes might work- what's interesting (but understood) is how adjustments to specific corners of the element *seem* to affect other corners

Are engineering teams treating AI as productivity hacks or as a core capability to be developed?

Early data from my AI in dev survey is suggesting teams of all sizes are racing ahead on generation but lacking some of the other practices to make this sustainable.

Interesting first data from AI & Development survey. Teams that are tiny or large+ show more maturity than their mid-sized counterparts.

The always awesome @ajfisher.social has a short survey on how and why people are (and are not) actually using generative AI tools in software engineering.

Got 5 minutes? I'm really interest in the results.

If you're a software engineer (or know one) I'm doing some research on how you & your team are using AI in your engineering practice.

There's a little survey here that takes about 5-10 mins to complete & the results will get shared with all participants.

Why are you shipping 3MB of JavaScript to animate a link?

Modern CSS now handles seamless page transitions - natively.

No routing hacks. No hydration tax. No excuse.
It's time for modern CSS to kill the SPA
Native CSS transitions have quietly killed the strongest argument for client-side routing. Yet people keep building terrible apps instead of performant websites.

Modern HTML is a disaster.

It’s bloated, semantically meaningless, and hostile to browsers, bots, and users.

We’ve traded structure for utility, and performance is paying the price.

Semantic HTML still matters - and here’s why.

Why Semantic HTML Still Matters
If you want to build for performance, accessibility, discoverability, or resilience, you must start with HTML that means something.

Great arg for why lowering voting age in Aus needs civics support to make it viable.

This said, some of the convos I have (even those who grew up here) suggest civics teaching more broadly is lacking. In no particular order:
