Visiting my parents at the moment - who live at the edge of a big national Park in Sydney. Happened across this well fed bugger sunning itself today.

I grew up here & have always come across snakes but far fewer since I was a kid. So great to see such a healthy one again.

Are engineering teams treating AI as productivity hacks or as a core capability to be developed?

Early data from my AI in dev survey is suggesting teams of all sizes are racing ahead on generation but lacking some of the other practices to make this sustainable.

Even more weird is the use of phonetics as rationale for why it fails and particular the way lips work when making the sounds.

This is some A-grade post-rationalisation going on here to defend a mistake.

After this, I also asked it why it thought there were 3 b's. *Sometimes* you can get cGPT to introspect so thought I'd give it a go. It then went into some phonetics which was a bit long to screenshot but you can read if interested (chatgpt.com/share/689591...).
Asking chatGPT why it thought there were 3 b's in boysenberry and it indicated it did a shortcut.... As an aside suggesting it has a "head" and "gut" was a bit weird

So I tried this out as well but with "boysenberry" instead in case it was patched. Results attached.

Asking chat CPT how many B's there are in "boysenberry" and it answers 3. Asking if it is sure about the answer, it then swaps to thinking mode and counts them out and confirmns there are only 2. Just to see if it would latch the answer I asked it if it was still happy with that answer or wanting to confirm which it does (and also tries to crack a joke)

Well, as I predicted, QANTAS has now sent out it's "Hearts and Minds" comms to affected customers (including me) and they doubled down on the "no card details were compromised" statements.

Text from an email sent by QANTAS. Follows: "I wanted to update you on a cyber incident that occurred in one of our contact centres impacting customer data. The system is now contained. For those customers whose information has been potentially compromised you will receive further communication from us shortly. To all our customers, I would like to sincerely apologise that this has occurred. There is no impact to Qantas' operations or the safety of our airline. However, we understand that when personal information is at risk, it can affect peace of mind, so we wanted to update all of our customers on what occurred and what we are doing. What happened On Monday, we detected unusual activity on a third-party platform used by one of our airline contact centres. We immediately contained the incident and can confirm all Qantas systems remain secure. Our initial investigations show the compromised data includes some customers' names, email addresses, dates of birth and Frequent Flyer numbers. Importantly, no credit card details, personal financial information and passport details are held in the system that was accessed. No Frequent Flyer accounts, passwords, PIN numbers or log in details have been compromised. What we're doing We're working closely with government agencies and independent cyber security experts while we respond to this incident."

Maintaining context is a big improvement. While you could do limited highlight edits before, doing turn based changes is ace.

Here I started with something I'd made and asked it to update to early 2000s cinema still. Then asked to relight it and be more photo realistic.

Started playing with the new OpenAI 4o image gen capabilities.

Seriously improved from where they were when it was just make a prompt and send it to Dall.E

Being able to say "get the forecast" as one step, then "turn this data into an infographic" feels very natural

Wow. 5 years since this started happening. At one level it doesn't feel like 5 years since COVID really kicked off in Melbs even though 2020-2022 took 10 years to complete.

Seems like my feed has been going wild for Deepseek R1 today - mostly due to the tanking of US tech stocks.

I have thoughts on this but, as someone who regularly works with and tests out these models I want highlight why R1 may not be the model that kills off Open AI etc.

I spotted this tube worm (Christmas tree worm) while snorkeling the other day and just laid in the water watching it for ages. Very calming and centring.

Everyone needs some tube worms today.
