THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

I helped lead the National Guard. Troops don’t belong in our cities.
We must not permit this gross misuse of the military to be normalized.

Instagram culture promoting subsistence and “tradding” is literally turning a whole demographic into ignorant antisocial citizens. You cannot subsist your way out of hunger without… a lot of investment (land, resources, etc). And it’s hard.
That’s the kind of kneejerk dismissive advice that makes me violent. Telling people to just grow their own food is tantamount to telling them to eat cake.
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

Someone please explain to me how this isn’t a flagrant violation of SCOTUS’ decision in AARP that due process requires more than 24 hours of notice.
Attys allege here that a Burmese man & a Vietnamese man were summarily removed to South Sudan on ~12 hrs notice, in violation of a 4/17 preliminary injunction & a 5/7 order reiterating it ...

To everyone asking what they can do, here’s an example of courage and principles.
"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging."

Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

I wrote about my decision in TIME.

Regs

*Taps mic*

Hello! I’m a former long-time civil servant turned academic.

I wanna tell you some stuff.

First, my service was mostly at a place called OIRA, which is an office that oversees federal regulation. I’d therefore rate myself as an above-average tea-leaf-reader for federal regs.

Peter Navarro on CNBC reacts to the shrinking GDP number by insisting it's actually good news because if you strip out the effect of tariffs "you have 3 percent growth. So we really like where we're at now."

And then... I lost it.
