Three cheers for the Constitution's right to a jury: a federal jury in Los Angeles "took just over an hour to acquit [Brayan] Ramos-Brito of a misdemeanor assault count" in an ICE-scuffle case hinging heavily on the testimony of border sector chief Gregory Bovino, now doing raids in Chicago.

Incredible scoop! Career officials inside the Trump administration first viewed the case of Mr. Abrego like any normal case of a wrongful deportation — they began looking for ways to bring him back, as happens normally when ICE makes mistakes.

Then the White House got involved, and blew it up.

so they’re really going with the “keep a habeas petition in your pocket just in case you get disappeared” theory of due process, huh?

BREAKING: DOJ claims that the Trump administration did not violate a court order barring it from third-country removals without providing process when three people were sent to El Salvador b/c the Defense Department sent them to El Salvador on March 31, not DHS, and DOD isn't a defendant.

Wow, this is the first time we've heard this number. Previous reporting suggested it was $6 million. So now it's $15 million of U.S. taxpayer dollars to imprison people in El Salvador without trial.
Van Hollen says he learned that Trump Admin agreed to pay El Salvador $15million to detain the men they sent there. He is aware that there is a "document that memorialized the payments" but he has not seen the document itself.

i have argued before that MAGA is recapitulating antebellum pro-slavery ideas about citizenship and bodily autonomy. one thing i am also thinking about, when it comes to the rendition of people to a foreign gulag, is the way it is reminiscent of the kidnapping of free blacks for sale into slavery

Unless there was another sealed filing which isn’t on the docket (a real possibility), it would appear that the administration has failed to provide the required information about what they are doing to try to get him back.

The 1:00 hearing is going to be fiery. Sadly, no public call-in line.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia had a legal right to be in America. He’s a husband, father and working man. Not a criminal. Yet he was deported to a gulag in El Salvador with no due process and Presidents Trump and Bukele refuse to return him to his family in the U.S.

Yet ANOTHER story of a Venezuelan man ripped away from his family in the U.S. because of his tattoos; in this case a tattoo of a rose and a tattoo of a crown.

It’s been three weeks and his wife and kids have no idea what’s happened to him. Like others, El Salvador is holding him incommunicado.

Another huge story from today. An unknown number of people admitted through the CBP One program with a one-year grant of humanitarian parole got messages today telling them they have to leave the country within 7 days.
New: Migrants who were temporarily allowed to live in the United States by using a Biden-era online appointment app have been told to leave the country
"immediately," officials said Monday. It was unclear how many beneficiaries would be affected.

The pattern of ICE apparently hustling its detainees over a state border to frustrate habeas petitions in the jurisdiction where they were detained continues.

Remember that ICE didn’t disclose Öztürk’s location, publicly or to her counsel, until she reached Louisiana.
NEW: Tufts grad student Rümeysa Öztürk can't challenge her detention or visa revocation in MA federal court, because she was already in VT when her habeas petition was filed; and her First Amendment claims can't be reviewed by any court, argues the Trump admin. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...
