Having done concept work… yes, 100% Zane is right.
You get better, cooler, weirder, wilder, fresher ideas with creatives bouncing off each other than a plagiarised soulless mashup will get you.
The earlier the stage of design, the more critical it IS to the design.

Using genAI for concept art is so fucking stupid because like... that's where you get the cool shit. Thats the blue sky phase where artists make pieces of art that will be seen by a teenager later and change their life forever. Why would you want to start from mediocre. Why would you do that.

Some present had direct personal experience with the video game industry’s current layoff-centric strategy. Earlier this year, Timothy Staton-Davis, who attended the protest dressed in a grim reaper cloak and holding a plastic scythe, was part of a small round of layoffs at Brass Lion Entertainment, which is currently working on Wu-Tang: Rise Of The Deceiver.
“There were a few of us they had to let go of because of monetary issues,” Staton-Davis told Aftermath. “It’s their first game. They’re trying to pull through. They’ve been negatively affected by the current industry situation in a lot of ways because of mismanagement of money. It’s not the studio’s fault, but from our partners and all that kind of stuff.”
“My first studio gig was at Monolith,” he continued. “Now they’re gone. Unfairly so. Nonono! See, my boss insists the reason I had 2 burnouts last year is because I don't know how to manage my time, and not... you know... the fact that they cut a position in my team and the ineffective management with poor communication and constantly shifting goals!

Almost everyone in game dev gets paid extremely low salaries compared to their colleagues in the same role outside of game dev, while publishers rake in millions, so I can assure you that the increase in price is not buying groceries for game devs.
