Multiple things can be correct simultaneously. 1. The ACA caused inflation in insurance markets. 2. Congress failed to find an alternative plan to provide health insurance for millions of Americans 3. Democrats have no leverage to protect millions of an Americans healthcare except for a shutdown.

I have to keep this deliberately vague, but this is a total disaster for academic research.

And imposing it so suddenly is just cruel. I’ve got friends scrambling to get back to the US before midnight tonight. Do you know how hard that is to do on 36 hours of notice?
Trump to impose $100,000 fee per year for H-1B visas, in blow to tech
The Trump administration said on Friday it would ask companies to pay $100,000 per year for H-1B worker visas, prompting some big tech companies to warn visa holders to stay in the U.S. or quickly return.

My mom called me last night about the Kimmel firing, saying "This is how Hitler got started!" I quickly responded, "By firing the late night tv hosts?"

Turns out, mom was right.

Political violence should never be tolerated and should be universally condemened regardless of political affliation.

Political violence is always bad. Regardless of motivation & echoes a decline in civil discourse & should be universally condemned. Rather than divide our nation such acts should have us all asking where we’re going & whether we are amplifying rhetoric that makes violence more or less likely.

I am opposed to political violence but, it is important to point out that Charlie Kirk developed programming that actively and knowingly directed political violence against academics. www.npr.org/sections/ed/...

Soon we will be w/out weather data due to the dismantling of NOAA, without health services due to the loss of the CDC/NIH and HHS, and then we will be without economic data due to the dismantling of gov statistics offices. And the fed will be run be sycophants. The future is looking bleak…

Republicans are like a sports team that tries to rig games by buying off refs, changing the rules, and breaking the legs of their opponents. They may "win," but its no longer a game, and everyone loses.

The United States is no longer a democracy with the rule of Law. We are governed by a wannabe autocratic regime and a sycophantic political party that cares more about political power than constitutionality and moral or ethical behavior. All of this has transpired in 7 months.

The people who say we talk too much about slavery are the same ones who insist that we need public monuments and statues of men who are famous solely for waging a war of treason in defense of slavery.

Statues that were created explicitly to deny any sense of "hope and progress" after the Civil War.
White House official Lindsey Halligan: "While slavery is obviously a horrible aspect of our nation's history, you can't really talk about slavery honestly unless you also talk about hope and progress ... we need to stop focusing so much on the lack of progress."
