Many people dismissed the announcement Catholic hospitals will ban gender-affirming care nationwide under the assumption that there will be other options. In reality, Catholic hospitals make up as much 46% of options in some states. This map is 2020, prior to Trump’s assault on safety net hospitals.

You offered a reading of the poem that seemed to me completely persuasive and plausible and, yet, also, one that is not strictly dictated or delimited by the lines themselves. These are lines that seem to me unusually open to divergent readings-- including, for instance, a reading much more coaxing and seductive; another, much more defensive and manipulative; another, much more about language itself as a mode of sharing. I left our conversation wanting to explore with you the aggressive (or maybe mock aggressive) reading you gave, as well as the way this poem, perhaps more than many, sustains so many readings. You helped me think about Williams's poem as it seems in some ways more like a "script" than a poem, a poem written in such a way as to be turned by different voices in different directions, a poem that might even be "directed" by the reader. I'd love to hear you read the poem again and, if you are willing, to discuss it a bit with me on camera for my upcoming Massive Open Online Course on American poetry.

Al Jazeera reports Israeli forces launched fresh raids and heavy artillery fire today in southern Gaza, also demolishing several homes in areas south of Khan Younis. The strikes are another clear breach of the ceasefire...

Israel later claimed the men had “crossed the yellow line,” referring to the ceasefire boundary that is mostly invisible in the ground. The army said its troops “eliminated” them after identifying “a threat” – language that Israeli officials have recently used to describe murdering 11 members of the Shaaban family (7 children and 3 women among them) when they were trying to return to their home near the unmarked “yellow line.” ▪️ Israeli Captive Returned One more coffin containing the body of an Israeli captive was transferred from Gaza to Israel under the ongoing exchange arrangement. According to the Israeli military, it is the 22nd of 28 deceased captives to be returned; six remain. ▪️ More Mutilated Palestinian Bodies Returned by Israel Health officials in Gaza told Al Jazeera that bodies of Palestinians returned earlier today, like other bodies returned by Israel under the ceasefire deal, were in an advanced state of decomposition. One was missing its head. Identification has been severely hampered because Israel is still blocking the entry of DNA-testing equipment.
