Twenty-five years ago, I regularly baked a good deal of bread from flour I'd freshly milled. Circumstances, equipment, and houses have changed since then, but I still think it's a tasty and nutritious way to go, so now I'm trying to bring it back, this time using a bread machine. First loaf done.

As far as I know, this is the only covered bridge on an active road in Rhode Island.

I like labour rights, and wish the Starbucks union well in their strike, but I can't meaningfully not cross the picket line of a company I rarely patronize, and last visited several years ago.

40 years ago we’d have congressional hearings falsely accusing metal bands of putting backwards messages in their songs that told kids to kill themselves & now we have a planet-killing chatbot that’s all like “bet you won’t commit suicide chickenshit bitch” & the government is like here’s $5 billion

Cheney's obit opens "At its heart, American conservatism is a fantasy. It's a vision of a world too evil to be saved or cared about, and fearsome enough to justify any and every impulse toward cruelty and violence that a person might have. A world resolutely unworthy of knowing, except as a danger."

This morning, Drummer woke me to speak to the management about why her food dispenser wasn't dispensing breakfast. Right. It's bad enough we have to put up with this DST nonsense, but I see no reason to inflict it on her. I triggered an immediate feed, and set times for other feedings to compensate.

So, Trump's regime is ordering the military to conduct random murders for shits and giggles. The people giving these orders, at least, should be tried for murder.
The Pentagon believes “they do not need to positively identify individuals on the vessel to do the strikes” and that is partly why the administration has not sought to detain or prosecute the survivors of the strikes, “because they could not satisfy the evidentiary burden.” trib.al/nYTqzWK

So, GM has apparently decided that they never want to sell me another car. I'm all for them making great infotainment systems with lots of compelling features that I want to use. But disabling phone projection implies they don't think they can compete.

GM will ditch Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all its cars, not just EVs
GM CEO Mary Barra says Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will no longer be supported even on its gas vehicles as it moves to unify its in-car software platform.

I was extremely disheartened to see @whitehouse.senate.gov and @reed.senate.gov voting to confirm a Trump nominee at this point in things. There is no comity. We need full throated opposition to this despot!
Why the fuck are Democrats confirming this despot's judges. Why are Democrats giving a single fucking inch on anything, while he is waging war on our country?

Be. A. Fucking. Opposition. Party.
By a vote of 66-32, the #Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Harold D. Mooty III to be US District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama.

Just back from a #NoKings protest in a somewhat small town. I was expecting dozens of other folks. Turns out, there was turn out! It was at least several hundred people, and maybe over a thousand. Lots of creative signs, flags, and camaraderie. I'd recommend finding one if you can.

Cooler temps and a Nor'Easter forecast for the next few days. I just put the beans to make this in soaking solution, so it'll be ready to make tomorrow evening.
We're getting the first signs of fall weather, and while this will be great in the winter, it was still cool enough that this felt indulgent. A nice, warming stew of white beans with seedy bread on the side. Yummy!

It's still been on the warm side, but that's set to change later this week with more typical autumn temps. That cooling will make the leftovers from tonight's red lentil and tofu curry extra warming when I get to them.

While cooking a new recipe tonight, I found myself thinking it called for a lot of garlic. I immediately ran to the bathroom to ask the person in the mirror who they were and what they'd done to me... No signs of a pod on the base of my skull, I returned to the kitchen and used all the garlic. Yum!

I couldn't help but wonder if part of the motivation for blaming autism on acetaminophen was to target one of the last, generally available pain meds pregnant women had available. I could totally believe increasing suffering, for women, was in their list of goals.

I have real work to do, but Drummer has once again taken my keyboard hostage. Perhaps I should replace the pad in the cat bed right behind her with an old keyboard to make it more attractive?
