SPFBO judge for Fantasy Faction
Mostly here for bookish distractions
A fantastic story, with an ending that will punch you in the gut then side-eye you, daring you to challenge it
The latest #SPFBO review:

A mix of mystery, adventure, and heart, The Lost War brings classic quest fantasy to life with warmth, humour, and a twist that still stuns on reread.

“I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested. I'm 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak. ... The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, ‘What is your stance on AI?’ And my answer was very short. I said, ‘I'd rather die.’” 🫡
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says 'I'd rather die' than use generative AI
Del Toro's new Frankenstein adaption reimagines Mary Shelley's 1818 Gothic novel. Frankenstein was like a tech bro: "creating something without considering the consequences," he explains.

Sometimes things don't quite go to plan. It can be hard, when obstacles mean things don't turn out the way we wanted. But the important thing to remember, is that no matter how disappointed you might be, there are always BOOKS. #indieauthors #indiewriters #writingcommunity

Waiting for all the AI weirdos to go full “chatbots don’t kill people, people kill people!” in 3…2…
ChatGPT essentially advised a sixteen year old on how to take his life—including by telling him how to make a noose and to avoid talking to his parents, even when he wanted to.

And then he did.

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

It's the fact your characters act like they live in that world that makes it real, not the worldbuilding.
if u see this, quote-post with your tips for writers that no one gives anymore because they seem obvious (even though they're not)

These novellas are absolutely delightful ROMPS set on 19th-century Mars with dinosaurs and mysteries and a lot of humor. Subscribe to snap them up!
I've been very stressed over recent weeks. An elderly relative needing nearly full-time care, and me having to provide it.

So, for anyone else stressed, I'm going to give away these two fun novellas of mine to everyone subscribed to my newsletter this month.

I’ve read about half of Rob J Hayes’ books – excellent, every one
I regularly get the question of where to start with my books, so I thought I'd create a little thread.

None of my individual series are connected, so you can start with any series. And I like to write across many of the different sub genres, so it really depends on what sort of fantasy you're after
