The enshitification of everything in the 2000s continues. Today’s headlines should read, “Emotionally stunted, man-child president captures Dollar General-brand autocrat in bid for oil.”

Years and years ago at an AHA, a reporter at the Chronicle asked me what I'd like to see from them in the coming year and I said "Try to go a week without quoting a professor from an Ivy league school."

I am re-upping that request but I'd like to broaden the publications it applies to.

In the grand tradition of American journalism, both sides must always be expressed. On the one side, there might be the moral courage of CECOT survivors who told us their story. On the other side, there might might be my service to oligarchical fascism in killing their story.

How long do we give it into 2026 before the Queen of Quitting writes her next banger, “Why I’m still a victim of leftist media even thought I was editor-in-chief of CBS News?” My bet is Valentine’s Day.

It's always the most obsessed anti trans people who get caught with CSAM.
1. In Alaska, the right wing govt handpicked doctors to the Medical Board to ban trans youth care.

A month after after, one anti-trans doctor was arrested for child porn.

The day after he was bailed out, his home burned down, with reports suggesting he was found deceased.

Our latest wild story.
Anti-Trans Alaskan State Medical Board Doctor Charged With CSAM, Home Goes Up In Flames
Last week Dr. Ryan McDonough was arrested on ten counts of possession of child sexual abuse material. Over the weekend, his family home went up in flames.

Nationalism chooses sides in the most awful family drama of all time. It sides with the evildoers, and never with their victims, and teaches you to do the same.

Every conservative academic who supports this and then tries to use the word “federalism” from here on out needs to be laughed out of every room they enter for at least a generation.
NEW: President Donald Trump says he is granting a pardon to Tina Peters, who was convicted on state charges related to tampering with Colorado's election systems. Legal experts say presidential pardons do not apply to state charges.

It’s a trans thing: Rubio thinks a serif is the letter’s penis. It’s in a Heritage Foundation white paper somewhere.
Gotta admit "the font is DEI" is a stage of absurdity I could not have predicted
Marco Rubio ordered diplomats to return to using Times New Roman font in official communications, calling his predecessor's decision to adopt Calibri a “wasteful” diversity move

Same! Klaus was an instant family classic the minute we watched it in 2019. Beautifully animated and such a heartwarming story.
yesss this is so good—we’ve watched it every year since 2019
Once more watching this absolute classic and I will not rest until everybody does the same and acknowledges it.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is always a fever dream. You’ve got Matteo Bocelli singing “Caruso,” but he’s doing it on a float next to a cheese grater, a pasta knight, and some fire breathing dragon. Brought to you by Rao’s pasta sauce.

Plus, we have no idea the degree to which government computing systems have been breached by private actors. It doesn’t take a genius to wonder what a bunch of code monkeys, loyal only to an oligarch, did to government tech infrastructure.
This. To say nothing of the destroyed careers and livelihoods, the abandoned research, and the probably irreparable trust defect for anyone who *might* have been contemplating a career in public service. Please, stop with the DOGE failure narratives.

It’s also just wrong. Sure, there’s a .5-.75% difference between California and North Dakota, but take a look at the rapid increase in red Rocky Mountain states. This narrative is just a straight lie.
Only someone this wealthy would so flippantly suggest you uproot your life, sell your house, pull your kids out of school, quit your job, request a transfer — all to save 50 basis points on CPI. 🤡

This. You could correct almost everything in two years. But it would take a Congress that’s willing to fill the vacuum that executive power has filled and to rein in a SCOTUS that has dramatically overstepped its function.
