Not horrifying at all…
Israeli politicians have openly celebrated the renewed attacks on Gaza, with far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stating that this phase of fighting will be “completely different” from before.

It would be funny if it weren’t so toxic and unconscionable.
Read this piece, and imagine a stout German churchgoing lady explaining, in tones of genteel outrage, why voting for Hitler in the 1932 elections was a perfectly respectable thing to do, despite the dreadful smears being put about by those awful socialists.
The joke flew so far over this lady’s head they should divert air traffic

I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths

Correct. If the birthdate field contains corrupt or mismatched data, it defaults to 1875-05-20, which serves as a flag. May 20, 1875, is the day the international standards and metrics treaty was signed. Everything is a conspiracy when you don’t know how anything works.

these two things fundamentally must return in order to restore balance.
let’s find a way to get a version of these back.

Okay, so in general as I’ve been studying a number of 20th century Black American composers (Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, Harry T. Burleigh, et al) I’ve been pretty intentional about largely focusing on non-idiomatic art song.

So my first thought when I read this was (often my thought about the national parks) that stewardship should be given back to tribes who were the original stewards of these lands, and to revisit David Treuer’s piece in The Atlantic from 2021, “Return the National Parks to the Tribes.”
