Watching Practical Magic & painting memorial stones for the #NationalTrailOfTruth

It's been a hard year.

Thankful AF for art & it's varying existance. And for all the peace I find when I'm immersed.

Interesting.
The antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors—SSRIs—may have anticancer properties. A UCLA study showed SSRIs enhance the ability of T cells to fight cancer while suppressimg tumor growth across a range of cancer types in both mouse & human tumor models👇
SSRI Antidepressants May Also Be Anticancer
Researchers say, “It turns out SSRIs don’t just make our brains happier; they also make our T cells happier—even while they’re fighting tumors.”

So... It's official. 3 of the projects (so far) I was working in 2025 hv either had the funding options suspended w/ no end in sight, or will NOT be funded bc funding options are no longer avail.
50% (often more but NEVER LESS) of what I make goes DIRECTLY to MATSA.

So, now we're separating moms & babies because they test positive for drugs given during labor & delivery. Basically, traumatizing people for no reason. Drug tests simply shouldn't be used on pregnant people, period. Look for child abuse, not drugs. www.themarshallproject.org/2024/12/11/p...

Mothers were reported after they were given medications used routinely for pain or in epidurals, to reduce anxiety or to manage blood pressure during cesarean sections.

We repeat this experiment (or versions of it) in towns over and over again with the same positive outcome every time but without any resultant widespread policy change.
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing.
Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

Aside from everything else, Trump's tariffs to stop fentanyl production & export ain't gonna do shit. Taxing an army of US consumers 25% for imports is not likely to work when the actual US army was never able to stamp out drug production in other countries.

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.
