Oh my gosh, this episode of @storiesofwin.bsky.social with @dianambautista.bsky.social gave me so many feelings. 'Inspiring' is insufficient, but hope & joy are close. I love all the people who truly support and INVITE people to academic careers and education.

Every year I'm more worried that I'm making a mistake by not studying glial cells. Don't worry though, I plan to never learn my lesson.
We then went to town on the glial populations where we identified some pretty profound sex differences. We did not note sex differences in neurons, but the identification of male and female specific glial populations for astrocytes, microglia, and oligodendrocytes could have important functions.

I bet the courts won't do anything about it. Oh wait, I mean, I would *invest* in the *concept* of a certain outcome of the courts.

You know how when you do earn something after hard work, it's more satisfying than if you get it for free (I don't, but I hear most people do)? Apparently it's due to acetylcholine! Interesting paper here: rdcu.be/e1iEd that I heard about on @naturepodcast.bsky.social
Cholinergic modulation of dopamine release drives effortful behaviour
Nature - In the nucleus accumbens, acetylcholine boosts dopamine release to promote effortful behaviour.

Half-joking but, is there anything in neuroscience that doesn't "remain poorly understood"? I'm guilty as well, but that has to be like the most common phrase in papers, right? I guess equal but opposite to the traditional "It is understood that..."

I hate this: "The Editors have retracted this article... the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) instrument was used without proper permissions" link.springer.com/article/10.1... The MMSE is a series of 11 simple questions. A perfectly good paper is retracted because you can copyright 11 questions

The reaction to this story has been mockery. Well deserved too. But the bigger question is why is Nature publishing this? Editorial decisions determine whether someone gets to publish on their site. After we get through the delightful Schadenfreude, it’s good to notice how this piece concludes +
