Once Upon a Katamari
This latest entry finally feels like a firm new direction for the series after spinning its wheels for the longest time, quite enjoyed it! Definitely helps that the tunes are more hits than they are misses.

I beg you, please stop bringing back cowbear levels.

Skate Story
I can't say I fully understood everything that was going on, but even then this was a neat audio/visual narrative experience. I'm definitely keeping the soundtrack in my rotation for the year, probably the best part of the whole package.

This is my first Inkle game since 80 Days. Felt at home since I played The Roottrees are Dead, but I will say the beginning is kinda rough. But it is so interesting and nicely presented that it was fun going down those rabbit holes. It's also short enough and doesn't overstay its welcome.

Tokyo Psychodemic
This snuck out near the end of the last year after being announced (with a demo!) back in 2023, fairly decent investigation game that does sometimes feel held back by either its own technical limits/scope or by wanting to keep the game somewhat accessible. Wish it went crazier.

I am actually shocked by how high-budget the voice cast was?? I didn't expect it because the demo from 2023 was so low-budget and felt limited. Otherwise I think that it ended up being a decent adventure game. It DID help having some Japanese knowledge for some of the puzzles.

V Rising
Not usually my kind of game, but got invited to join up on @mrdarkpurr.me's server and had a surprisingly good time. Even got to sample the Castlevania DLC!

I get a little too into the base building aspect of these games so at least half my playtime was spent glamouring up my castle.

remember when the marketing for the rise of skywalker kept talking about how it was the end of "the skywalker saga" like that was a preexisting phrase that real human beings used to refer to the star wars movies

Zootopia 2
Perfectly acceptable Disney sequel. Colorful, somewhat topical, well-acted, got a few giggles out of me. Rethreads a few of the same beats as the original, but its not too egregiously done.

Look, my low bar for these movies is Wreck it Ralph 2 and this aint anywhere near that.

Onimusha: Warlords (PS4)
I kinda forgot this was more of a 3 hour tech demo than a full game, lol.

All killer no filler, still a pretty good afternoon or two sans all the music being worse than the original (even if its understandable why they did so).

Quibbles about visuals aside, this is probably my new favorite way to play MGS3 (a game I admittedly don't like much). New Style is the only palatable way through the game, and you bet I used every new shortcut available to go around the menuing you normally do.

BETTING TIME IS NOW OVER

(Cooking up a goty piece and its almost out of the oven)
New year, new media thread. Enough fell through the cracks in both 2023 and 2024 that I've got plenty to play this year, even if I pick up noting new throughout it (as if that's gonna happen).

Journey is still a game I remember very fondly, and this is a better, prettier, more dynamic take on that style of game. Very pleasant experience to just zen out to for a bit.

I was not the biggest Journey fan when that game came out, so this one gave me the same vibes before we went through it. But this is a better game than Journey imo -- different intentions, too.

It is SO freaking pretty. Super nice setpieces to surf around on your sword with.

Every second spent on this sent me back to a time when I'd sink so many hours playing garbage licensed OCEAN titles like Flinstones and Dennis the Menace, only this one is actually good and a pretty fun (if short) romp. Thankfully more Elevator Action than it is Contra.

62. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance
This game is mostly *fine*, but it feels very confused by what kind of game it wants to be. Is it a metroidvania? Is it a masochistic platfomer? Is it meant to be straight arcadey/level based? Is the story meant to matter? Kind of a jumbled mess that overstays by a bit.
