Geeky about books, film, & musicals. There’s always a song in my head.
Delighted by: Judy Garland, Emma Thompson, Stephen Sondheim, David Tennant, Terry Pratchett, Jinkx Monsoon. BE KIND, or at least don't be a dick.

Saffer in UK

Oh no, Johannes is wearing the dreaded Afro wig! You get eliminated when you wear the Afro wig! 😱😱 #strictly

No. The chief problem is, AI is literally A TOOL FOR UNLEARNING. The more you use it, the worse you get at whatever it is you’re using it for. It’s the opposite of educating, it’s uneducating. 2/2

The Long Voyage Home was not for me, but I am pleased to have completed the 1940 Best Picture Nominee list. A very strong year, with my favourites including Rebecca, The Letter, The Philadelphia Story, and The Grapes of Wrath.

I really wanted to go to Handel's Messiah by candlelight on Tuesday at St-Martin-in-the-Fields, but alas, I was/am sick as a dog who is very sick, so today I shall be listening to the Messiah (as conducted by Sir Neville Marriner there), and trying desperately to recall ye olde alto harmonies.

Since I’ve watched all ten 1939 best picture nominees, I decided to finish off 1940 as well, since I only had two left. So I just watched Foreign Correspondent, which was excellent. A Hitchcock spy/war thriller with Joel McCrea and a supporting turn by the delightful George Sanders? Yes please!

If your life had a narrator, who would it be?

Only one choice for me! “Little did she know….” 😆
a woman is making a funny face in front of a red curtain while holding her hands to her face .
Alt: Emma Thompson looking fabulous and making dramatic hand gestures in front of a red curtain.

I used to love going to the cinema. As a film-lover, it was what I did. It was kind of part of my personality.

But...I just can't anymore. People are just too rude and disrespectful. Even the expensive cinemas "for movie lovers" don't make any effort to stop people talking all the way through. 😥

This just happened again, but even worse this time: the person was reading an Elon Musk book (one of those “rah rah, look how great and wonderful he is” types of books).
They were unfollowed and blocked before I even knew I’d done it. 😂
Skimming my Goodreads feed and seeing that someone I follow has just read a book by Ben Shapiro.😲 Never unfollowed someone so fast in my life. I had the speed of a person hearing their pet starting to make vomit noises in a carpeted room.

Apparently I need to rewatch Hot Frosty because I have no idea what any of this was. 😂
Hot Frosty was honestly so much better and funnier than it had any right to be. So many delightful little bits.

"How does some hot soup sound?"
"That girl looks like someone I went to high school with."
Craig Robinson's sunglasses
Craig Robinson's crime song
Honestly every bit with Craig Robinson

I love watching Dianne and her baby bump dance. It’s so beautiful and precious. ❤️🥹🥹🥹

Added bonus that it pisses off people who get uncomfortable watching pregnant women live their best lives. #strictly

This is the most difficult #Strictly series to predict in recent history! But I think this is how it’s going to go down:
The final will be Lewis, Karen, and George.
Amber goes in a shock elimination on the semi-final.
Karen will win the whole thing because Lewis (the best) has “dance experience”. 🙄

In 1996 we learned and performed the whole of Carmina Burana in a week at an intensive youth choir course. I loved it so much that nearly 30 years later I still remember all the lyrics to O Fortuna. If only I could remember what happened yesterday. 🤣🤣

#strictly related because I was singing along 😆

I just found out that there are people who think that "nonplussed" means unbothered or unfazed, and I'm just... 🤯🤯🤯 That's almost the literal opposite of what it means! Nonplussed means to be perplexed, confused, not sure how to react.
Nonplussed is the mildest of the feelings I have about this!

This truly is the most cursed series of #Strictly 😢😢

So sad for La Voix; she was so excited to make it to Blackpool.

Jack Whitehall is actually genius casting in "Malice", because we've all spent the last 15-ish years going, "What a lovely, attractive, funny guy", and now he's Pure Evil and I would absolutely be taken in, too.
[No Spoilers please; I'm only on 3/6!]

So. A friend (not a close friend) asked me to beta read his novel. Of course I said yes, because how exciting!

Unfortunately...I hate it. I'm *struggling*. I hate his writing style. I'm 38% in but it's SO LONG, so there's still tons to go. I would absolutely have DNFed this IRL. What do I do? 😭

I've also got three "nearlys", which are making me want to throw things at the screen - how can I be so close and still not get it??
I thought this year's #HiddenBooksGame was supposed to be easier. 😂

Or I could just be madly obtuse. Although I did manage to find two where I've never even heard of the book...

Only 8/20 so far! 😬

For no reason in particular, I have a strong desire to read a Joyce Carol Oates book. Which one should I read?

People of London! PLEASE SHARE. I lost my necklace last night (10th Nov), and I'm hoping someone has found it. I caught the Northern Line from High Barnet to Leicester Square, then walked to the Prince Charles Cinema, then the same back again. I only noticed it was gone when I got home.
