TACO Trump as the investment bankers call him
News Analysis: President Trump's assault on global trade has lost any semblance of structure. He has changed deadlines, blown up negotiations and tied his tariffs to complaints that have nothing to do with trade. It's preventing companies and countries from making plans.
As Trump Sows Tariff Confusion, Rules of Global Commerce Give Way to Chaos
Blunt letters dictating terms posted to social media and changes late in negotiations have left trading partners wondering what President Trump will do next.

If you think the people in a state that went for Trump deserves whatever happens to them but you are exempt from this as a citizen of a country that went for Trump you gotta break that down for me

An insane amount of bias that surely didn’t come out when Biden’s agenda was rolling thru in 2021/2022.
"Trump is at the top of his game right now," says our Capitol bureau chief and senior Washington columnist Rachael Bade.

Watch Bade break down his four biggest wins of the past two weeks and read her column about how he dominated Congress here 👇

Exactly. It goes towards the Fetterman interview yesterday as well - holding public office is often performative and routine. However, a major part of the job description is to shape public opinion through words and actions. If you’re not willing to do that, get out of politics.
if your grand approach to politics is bloodless poll-testing so that you're always aligned with wherever public opinion happens to be, you've already lost

Little girls and boys who like dolls are now collectively “the beast”.
Trump: "When you say strollers are going up -- what kind of a thing? I'm saying that gasoline is going down. Gasoline is thousands of times more important than a stroller someplace ... you don't need to have 35 dolls. You can have 2, 3, 4, and save a lot of money. We don't need to feed the beast."

A whole lot of "viewpoint diversity" from people who are banning "diversity, equity, and inclusion".
Here's one of the many clarifying passages in the White House (notionally GSA) letter. It demands Harvard set up a system of political commissars who will enforce hiring and admissions set asides for MAGA luminaries and high school red hats.

The Democrat vs Republican debate is fundamentally based on one party that doesn’t believe in the federal government (for various reasons). At least Harriet here admits that openly. The curious thing is why they even run for positions in that government, likely boils down to paychecks for no work.
Holy shit. Republican Harriet Hagemen got torn apart at a town hall in Wyoming last night. In a state that voted for Trump by 46 points.

She tried defending DOGE and it went as well as you’d imagine.

“Deport Elon, Deport Elon!”

Watch to the end…

The absolute main takeaway from the election was Trump got centrist and low-info voters on the promise of lowering prices. Should be front page, Apple News feed-level stories about this change in “tone”.
Trump's failure to deliver on one of his basic campaign promises—the promise that targeted centrist newswriters and politics knowers—is suddenly all disembodied abstractions, *a shifting tone resetting expectations*, a natural process happening entirely on its own
"The shifting tone could allow Mr. Trump to reset expectations about how fast prices will come down as he pursues policies like tariffs and tax cuts, which economists say could exacerbate inflation."

They mean the Times's shifting tone here, I guess.

Counterpoint: None of this is remotely shocking to those of us well aware that the GOP has long wanted to dismantle the federal government.
Yes. While there are absolutely things Democrats can and must do to slow, obstruct, etc, GOP hold both House and Senate majorities, severely limiting our options.

Johnson and Thune are handing over the own keys and relinquishing their own power. Even for the cynics this should be a shock.
We all like to yell at the Democrats, but it’s really Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune who are letting Elon Musk and his faceless goon squad make a mockery of their power as leaders of a coequal branch without uttering a peep or lifting a finger.
