Hello, I'm a Yorkshire lass. I'm the daughter of a 56 Recce who served in WW2.
Retired/Married. Interested in all things WW2, especially the Italian Campaign.
Enjoy walking, reading and making cross stitch samplers
Pinned
In WW2 my father was in Italy with the British 78th Division, and in July 1944 his unit was sent to Quassasin camp near Ismalia for some rest and recuperation. They had fought in North Africa, Sicily and Italy since November 1942.
Always remember, never forget.

What's especially cool about this:

It's a funky cut through a crinoid column. We're seeing the two halves of the column in the top and bottom "teeth," and the right side "tooth" is the back half of the column.

It's a 3D visualization puzzle!

(Also creepy and cursed as all get-out.)

I reckon the last time the son of a sovereign was taken into custody in Britain was the Duke of Monmouth in 1685.

This is heart breaking

We managed to see them close up on the Farne islands. They really are cheeky chappies up close

It will take some time for populations to recover from this ☹️☹️☹️
Heartbreaking: Right now, thousands of Puffins are washing up along our coasts and further afield.

It is devastating to see.

These birds are Red-listed in the UK and already under serious pressure.

Mass deaths like this, known as a “seabird wreck”, can take years for colonies to recover from...

This is the first I’ve read of the Trump administration’s order to stop commemorating the Black American soldiers in a US military cemetery in the Netherlands. My God, how sick, petty & vindictive, how all-consumed with racist hatred do you have to be to order that?
Many people died to defend a "multicultural economic zone." And then Donald Trump had their deaths hidden because he's a racist. www.military.com/daily-news/i...

Think about how petty and despicable #maga bastards like #Hegseth are.

He spent time (getting paid by taxpayers) sitting there and thought..;

"How can we disrespect our dead veterans to benefit the regime? 🤔"

I'm not American obvs... But this pisses me off.

What kind of people disrespect their OWN war dead?!

I mean, the American Republican party disrespected OUR war dead (that won't be forgotten, by the way) but to disrespect THEIR OWN as well!!

What kind of 'humans' are they?

This photo was taken in 1911 using glass plate technology by Herbert Ponting who was part of Scott's Antarctic expedition,

The composition and detail are exquisite with the band of white snow/ice creating a perfect frame around the two people and the ship in the distance

Iconic imo
