✨Proudly presenting our first odonate of the month! ✨

With lots of fun facts & species info, we hope to bring these #ancient, important & beautiful, yet increasingly #threatened, creatures to broader attention.

Our postdoc Roberto Novella Fernandez presented his new work on phenological variation of functional traits in butterflies. #gfoe2025 Check out his paper on dragonflies @natcomms.nature.com, also highlighting the phenological dimension of functional diversity variation www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I am proud @unimarburg.bsky.social is represented by so many talks at this years @gfoesoc.bsky.social meeting @uni-wuerzburg.de; Here some impressions from the talks of Tobias Müller, Andry Rakotomalala & Annabell Wagner. Things are really accelerating so make sure to not miss the upcoming!

#gfoe2025 has started, whohoo! Just enjoyed 2 great talks by @kampjohannes.bsky.social & @felixneff.bsky.social, highlighting the importance of considering longer time periods than just the last 2 decades to understand #biodiversity trends

Big thank you for the warm welcome @uni-wuerzburg.de @gfoesoc.bsky.social: OB Martin Heilig, GfOe president Christan Ammer and Jörg Müller, and all the organizers, including Christian Hof!

As we are getting ready for a certainly great Annual Meeting of the @gfoesoc.bsky.social hosted by @uni-wuerzburg.de, …. highlight the “Macroecology and Biogeography” Session on Wed./Thurs.: 3rd/4th, in your calendar!!!

Great line up!

I used my plenary to showcase our achievements, particularly in ecophysiology kicking off a brilliant session with lots of contributions of LatAm colleagues. Thank you Cornelio and Melissa for inviting me and @daadworldwide.bsky.social + @consecol.bsky.social @unimarburg.bsky.social for support!

So sad to leave this beautiful country earlier than most ICO attendees. The spirit was awesome. Feels like odonatology is taking off to become a flagship of global #insect #biodiversity #ecology & #conservation.

Just some of the great observations and impressions from today’s field trip #ICO #WDA #Odonatology here in Colombia. Be come a member of the Wordwide Dragonfly Association and follow our activities, but most importantly consider being part of the upcoming community events!

We’ve got 27 hours left on the Kickstarter campaign for Endlings, our new show on @bizarrebeastsshow.bsky.social, and we absolutely smashed our goal 🤯🥳🤩

I’m thrilled and so grateful that this many people are this enthusiastic about the stories we want to tell #scicomm

Heading out for a drink after a busy day at the International Congress of Odonatology. What a marvellous atmosphere and group of great people! Thank you so much for making this happen @colombias Odo Community & #WDA and @daadworldwide.bsky.social & @unimarburg.bsky.social for their support!
We’re excited to launch our Double Degree Master’s in Global Change Ecology – a unique collaboration between the University of Würzburg (Germany) and the University of Bergen (Norway)! Passionate about biodiversity🐛, ecosystems🗻, and today’s urgent environmental challenges🌍? This program is for you!

Fantastic dispatch by @gemmabenevento.bsky.social on our recent article on eco-evol drivers of burrowing in mammals! Really like the format @currentbiology.bsky.social combing expert spotlight, commentary & mini-rewiew. Thank you Gemma for your interesting perspective on the results & broader topic!
Thanks to @pro-pink.bsky.social for the use of the phylogeny figure from the original paper, @quentinwildlife.bsky.social (quentinmartinez.fr) for the use of some beautiful burrowing mammal images, and to @currentbiology.bsky.social and editor @florianmade.bsky.social for the opportunity.

8am an it’s raining. Just me and the squirrels in the street but it feels nice to be back in NH.
Fellow Ecologists,
The #gfoe2025 @gfoesoc.bsky.social call for papers has just been published. Please submit your abstracts for exciting talks and engaging posters to present in Würzburg in September!

🚨"We project that up to 64% of the temperature niche space of butterflies in tropical realms will erode by 2070" thus turning mountains - known centers of butterfly diversity - from refugia to traps for butterfly diversity.

Beyond ecological insights, we hope our work will facilitate > protection of this remarkable & highly threatened diversity, seizing opportunities from #30by30 implementation. Strong mismatches of hotspots of 🦋 #diversity <> vertebrates highlight the need for targeted #conservation action! #HalfEarth

To get there we mobilised range maps & occurrence records from literature, country-dist info. Combined with citizen science data and integrated through newly developed approaches we now established a uniquely comprehensive knowledge base for butterflies, hoping this could be a role model for others.

Great collaboration between Yale BGC with the Jetz lab @yaleclimatecomm.bsky.social the Florida NH Museum @floridamuseum.bsky.social with @dr-akito.bsky.social and the @consecol.bsky.social at the University of Marburg @unimarburg.bsky.social

A major milestone of our >4-year effort to bring #butterfly diversity and its threat to global attention. We show most species and hotspots cluster in mountains, with #climatechange projected to erode up to 67% of the thermal niche supporting this diversity. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Our Thailand butterfly tour has taken off with a bang, with tons of fantastic butterflies on the first day! Here's just a small sample of them.

As with all our butterfly tours, a donation will be heading to our friends at @europebutterfly.bsky.social to help fund research & conservation.
