I’m having a crisis over international law. I’ve taught it, become an expert in it, believe in it, though there are flaws. It’s my professional life

But it right now it’s just being eviscerated. Might is just right.

Am I wrong in saying that? If so, how?

Conor Gearty died a month ago yesterday. He was deeply committed to human rights law without idealising it. He recognised its power & value while acknowledging its limitations (& those of the people engaging with it). He was also an exceptional lawyer. This is a fitting final piece in the @lrb.co.uk

ICJ President Sebutinde has been credibly accused of plagiarism, and the source is stunning: Douglas Feith was US Under Secretary of Defense and key architect of the illegal 2003 Iraq War. His career is defined by opposition to international law & it is unbefitting that any ICJ judge would cite him
