This may seem like a humble, everyday yellow cake. The kind you see at every birthday party. But this one is special, rich with a slightly tangy chocolate sour cream frosting.

Scary to think what kind of people are going to hired by ICE with its $45B budget in the next 4 years. I thought it would be people who were too incompetent, racist, violent, or crazy for normal police or military jobs, but this paper studies the question systematically:

The ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand is a major breakthrough after days of deadly clashes.

It’s vital both countries implement it in good faith.

I thank Malaysia as ASEAN chair for helping facilitate the negotiation process.

But it’s striking to see so little mechanisation of agriculture. Whether I visit tobacco, rice, or fish farms, much is still done by hand.

Rather beautifully, Professor Mahmood Mamdani's dedication in "Neither Settler Nor Native" is to his trail-blazing son, @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social.

He quotes the revolutionary Chinese writer Lu Xun's famous concluding lines in "Hometown":

仁 (ren), the Confucian precept often translated as benevolence or humaneness, exemplified by the human adult instinct to protect children.

The Analects also states that if the ruler lacks ren, it will be difficult for his subjects to behave humanely.
