To me what it isn't saying - what is effectively being taken for granted - is far more important and interesting than what it purportedly tells us (which is of very little real value).

On a related note, I had a nice conversation with a taxi driver today who asked if I was a professor - I said no but I'd be an assistant prof in the US - & he said on that basis, I should definitely consider myself to be a professor :-)

Oh my goodness, how have I missed this? Actual data on the north-south dividing line in the UK based on actual data about Greggs vs Pret, Waitrose vs Morrisons, and household income. TL;DR it is pretty close to Watford Gap / Severn-Wash line.
