I took a deeper look at the HEPI/Kaplan Soft Power "Index".

To me what it isn't saying - what is effectively being taken for granted - is far more important and interesting than what it purportedly tells us (which is of very little real value).

On a related note, I had a nice conversation with a taxi driver today who asked if I was a professor - I said no but I'd be an assistant prof in the US - & he said on that basis, I should definitely consider myself to be a professor :-)
What does it mean to be a "contingent" scholar? Aren't all professors the same? We've got a piece to help you understand that. And it's why our whole magazine exists, actually.
What Are the Different Kinds of College Faculty?
Their jobs and salaries may differ, but you should still call them "Professor."
