As part of our provision for postgraduate students I give about annually a talk/workshop thing around my favourite misquotes of my own work.

I think there is scope for some interpretational differences. But as you say, there are also those that are clearly outside this area.

A propos of some stuff, a brief thread on randomized experiments. 👇

We like randomization as it provides us with a powerful way to solve a big problem: identification.

Identification should not - cannot - precede other parts of the research process: theory, conceptualization, operationalization.
Our university press team asked me a few questions in regards to the new chair on Mental Health & Data Science. I sketch a bit of a vision on the importance of transdisciplinary work, and some obstacles to overcome.

2025 was quite packed, I gave talks about:
- the age-period-cohort problem
- making rigorous causal inference more mainstream

In retrospect I can see the neural net got mixed signals

I am sure a thorough qualitative analysis of the written comments will be undertaken, which should provide this info 😉

(Mocking aside: I had the chance to hear more detail about a ScotGov consultation where that part was done very thoroughly indeed.)

Looking at my diary, I am already in the third week of January or so... 🤦😜😅

I think the really interesting (or frustrating) thing is that it in most cases it only asks about how it is affecting the respondent, not whether it is worthwhile spending the money on a particular service or activity.

Do open science practices differ in psychology vs public health? I moved from psychology to public health (social determinants, so still very psychology-relevant), and I'm wondering if others have noticed a difference in these fields in terms of documentation, prereg, open access publishing, etc.

Have not come across this one yet:
