Oof, just got notice HHMI is not even doing Hanna Gray Fellows, or any competition, this year due to the challenging times in science funding rn 😬 Understandable. On the bright side, I was really proud my application🌈 #science #nih #hhmi
My ongoing request:

If your NSF or NIH grant was terminated--whether at Harvard or elsewhere--please report it here.

NSF: grant-watch.us/submit-nsf.h...

NIH: grant-watch.us/submit-nih.h...

Our trackers are actively used in lawsuits and are often the only record that terminations ever occurred.
NSF appears to be terminating hundreds of its grants to Harvard, per internal sources at NSF and at Harvard. At least one division has had all its grants cut.

Interested in a life sci PhD but want more research experience & support applying to PhD programs? PREP@UGA may be a fit for you! This 1-yr, NIH-funded program includes research experience, professional development & salary. For details and to apply: prep.uga.edu/about/

Don't use feedback from a single student about a single mentor to make evaluative judgments about that mentor. Rather, use results from the MURS to identify consistent patterns over time or broader trends to make decisions about how to support mentors to improve. For resources: cimerproject.org

Do you direct an undergraduate research program? Consider using the whole MURS or its dimensions to characterize the mentoring experiences of undergraduates in your programs. Then use the results to identify areas of mentoring strength and support mentors in making improvements.

Our paper presents robust evidence regarding the validity of the MURS, showing that sum scores on the MURS and scores on its dimensions can be used to evaluate undergraduate researchers’ mentoring experiences.

Good news = most ugrads experience positive research mentoring. Bad news = ugrads experience negative mentoring. ⬇️ MURS ~ ⬇️ post-research scientific self-efficacy, scientific identity, research task values, and research career intentions, after controlling for pre-research levels.

The MURS spans the range of mentoring experienced by undergraduate researchers– from positive mentoring experiences such as technical and psychosocial support to negative experiences with mentors such as mentor inaccessibility and abusive supervision.

Thrilled to share our new measure: the Mentoring in Undergraduate Research Survey (MURS)! www.lifescied.org/doi/10.1187/... Led by Lisa Limeri & grounded in work from Trevor Tuma when he was an REU student years ago. Thanks to the NSF IUSE program for supporting this work! #NSFfunded
