#xiphactinus
Draw this “beast”. And have it put the fear of cessation in me like that infernal armoured fish (xiphactinus and gillicus)

Sometimes I j7st feel like the world is pulling a very elaborate prank on me

I think I'm gonna whip up a different spooky dead fish head today...

So when is the battle against both the Sepulchre & Xiphactinus+Gilicus?

Fossil day huh? The full fossil is much much larger than this but I want to share my favorite chunk of this xiphactinus tail I’m working on at the lab. This patterning and texture is just so so cool.

This #FossilFriday, we have our museum's most recognizable fossil: Fish-Within-A-Fish! Featuring Xiphactinus, a large predatory fish, with the smaller Gillicus in its gut contents. It was found and collected by George F. Sternberg in 1952, and is now an iconic part of the Sternberg's collections!

#FishyFriday #FossilFriday A fossil of an 82-million-year-old Cretaceous fish called Xiphactinus showed that it swallowed another large fish called Gillicus whole!

Interactive elements in the dinosaur hall included Dial-a-Dinosaur phones (listen to first person accounts of life as a dinosaur) and big zoetropes. The holotype of Parasaurolophus cyrtocristatus was displayed (for the first time) against the wall, but was largely overlooked.

Low key hoping for an oddly yet appropriately placed Xiphactinus talk in a NOT DINOSAURS session

A medium sized (20-26ft) mosasaur from late the Cretaceous period. Named after the World Serpent of Nose Mythology and Walhalla, North Dakota where it was found. A formidable predator that coexisted with other mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, turtles, and fish such us Xiphactinus.

If you hadn’t referred to it as “stupid xiphactinus,” then I’d have been worried.
September 7, 2025 at 2:32 AM
Sorta disappointed. I posted something nice about stupid Xiphactinus and NOBODY wanted to know if I was ok

Happy #FossilFriday from my favorite fish on the planet, stupid Xiphactinus.

I found this one on accident one morning last October under about 2 inches of chalk and 2 whole bushes.

The teeth are kinda shot, but the rest of it is well articulated and kinda nice!

Make them aware of Xiphactinus!

Hope we get some cool stuff like Xiphactinus and a Submarine Tour

Or maybe Underwater Tunnels you can actually walk through, cool stuff like that

The smile is just because I'm in the only room in the museum Without a Stupid Xiphactinus on display
Don’t let the smile fool you, @mosasaurologist.bsky.social is actually screaming because I made him pose with his exhibits at Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center 🤣 He’d rather get eaten by a Megalodon.

I was assuming either a ranger or a ginger. Either one would be a good target for anti-Xiphactinus evangelism

Just met a new tanager that was staring with delight at their favorite geyser. We said hi…

An hour later, they now know how much @mosasaurologist.bsky.social loves xiphactinus, about fossils of dinosaurs with fish in their butts, the Monterey Canyon cold seeps, and Heritage Littering.

I like Xiphactinus

Happy ##ToothyTuesday from this jerkwad of a Xiphactinus. I'm glad it's dead, and I'm even gladder it died for a super dumb reason (it tried to eat a fish a full half of its own length)
August 20, 2025 at 12:02 AM
Not Xiphactinus.
August 11, 2025 at 8:03 PM
They are hiding EVERYWHERE
August 9, 2025 at 2:11 PM
These fish are surprisingly toothy. Doesn’t make me like them any better though

Xiphactinus Super Fan #1 @mosasaurologist.bsky.social always appreciates a xiph!
