I can hear tons of birds close by but the only one I’ve seen in the garden today is a woodpidgeon. I reckon they can see me and are coming in when I turn my back.

It turns out there was a sparrowhawk eating a woodpidgeon behind a bush the whole time which explains the complete lack of birds visible the whole time. Tempted to submit 1 sparrowhawk and 1/2 a woodpidgeon as my completed bird watch report.

Omg what I thought was a woodpidgeon fledgling in the garden was in fact a bloody Nightjar! That’s got to be a 50 pointer in the I-Spy book of birds.

cursing not owning binoculars - a strange bird that looked like a small osprey landed on the beech tree on the other side of the road but by the time I'd gone out there it had gone. It had pale grey wings & white belly with long-ish legs & shaggy leg feathers & bigger than a woodpidgeon. any ideas?!
