Searched hat on the whaling museum website and this guy came up first

So much was riveting at our visit to @whalingmuseum yesterday. The .5 whaling ship (w tool displays esp), the figureheads (ok, sure, Bartholomew Gosnold, take yr inspo where you get it), whaling scene on baleen, lovely sign Old Dartmouth out back. But.

So many things that struck me today @whalingmuseum but among top 3 this painted seaman’s chest by Azorean ship’s Cooper Manuel de Mendonça c 1850 depicting New Bedford. I love how he claims his chest and the land/seascape.

Did a v New England thing today & visited @whalingmuseum - many striking features / exhibits among them scrimshaw memories of the #AmericanRevolution - John Andre and Geo. Wash for ex. 👀
