Waymo is currently considered the autonomous driving gold standard, and even their "self-driving" isn't really self-driving.

As Musk pushes for his Optimus horseshit in the coming year, we're going to learn "autonomous" really means "poor people in telepresence gear."
It Turns Out Waymos Are Being Controlled by Workers in the Philippines
During a Congressional hearing, Waymo's chief safety officer, Mauricio Peña, was grilled over the company's reliance on overseas workers.

I’m trying to talk my boss into getting a telepresence robot for when I’m out of the office (bc obviously me being able to roll around terrorizing everyone from a distance is deeply important) and he won’t budge on it. Frankly it feels rude.

My “library” was originally a telepresence conference room. There’s a Promethean touch screen plus two ginormous display screens on the walls.

I have a loop of library slides running on them, which is great. Students can see info on them, and they add some extra light to the windowless space.

Given how gay and horny the source material is, and goes back to the source material I really hope they don't fuck it up.

Like y'all know Matoko's canonically a lesbian, but she'll do a man provided they "dive (occupy/telepresence) into a body I'm into", right?

afaik GITS broke a lot of jp eggs?

Well given that he's a complete fraud, who - for example - was trying to flog telepresence units operated manually from India as fully autonomous AI robots a frw months ago, there's an easy solution.

I’ll do it, I’ll stay here though and take a reduced salary, you spend the money you save on one of those telepresence robots that can roam around the room

Unsurprising but: the haptics industry is turning pretty hard in that direction now too, after the "we're going to make VR truly immersive" gambit crashed, they're going back to telepresence robots like it's 1985.

Is this any surprise with back-to-back petrostate COPs? Another awful experience with COP28 organizers. I was invited to present my #SantaSoaked initiative, but I'm a No-Fly climate guy. Could I do a virtual presentation? I even brought in a major telepresence vendor to enable this. No dice.

The thing is that if he just marketed it as the latest in telepresence people would probably think it was cool, but he can’t stop being the wizard of oz

Haven't seen that as a sales pitch for 6G, but I have seen sooo many people pointing to the metaverse, digital twins, robotics and holographic telepresence. And I know you'll be especially delighted to know one slide listed 8K video as one 6G use case.

You have no idea how angry it makes me that there's no "telepresence" plushies that have a camera and speaker in them.

I have a friend who doesn't leave their house, and I'd like them to be at our meetups, it'd be so cool to have a doll I just put in a chair and it's them.
