Characters' personalities coloring the function of their mechanics is something JRPGs do all the time but in traditional Soulslikes that's not something you get because tools are divorced from Character, generally. A Sword is a Sword. A Spell is a Spell. They may have LORE, sure, but, yeah.

For sure. I mean, there are plenty of soulslikes that I really enjoy (I have a particular fondness for Hellpoint and NOSE) but none of them REALLY nail the atmosphere or the actually engrossing lore that FromSoft brings. Except for Lies of P, which is somehow almost more Bloodborne than Bloodborne.

Replaying Lies of P is absolutely going to get me back into Souls games. 🥵 It’s just SO GOOD. None of the other soulslikes understand the formula as well as this game does. Suuuuper psyched to play the DLC for the first time!! 🤩

This one was also a Xmas gift. I don't play soulslikes that often, but this is a pretty enjoyable one for me. It adapts all the regular tropes of a souls game into a really fun and cute experience without cutting back too much on the actual difficulty.

This is definitely why I tend to prefer FromSoft's offerings over a lot of Soulslikes. Now FromSoft games can occasionally have some bs, but they usually avoid too many cheap deaths. There's a lot of Soulslikes out there that just ramp up difficulty to be as mean as possible
