you can look at pundits in every area of the field, even academia, & feel there’s no real appreciation for mechanical design. not trying to sound condescending but when most of your students don’t know what “press R1/the right bumper” means, i think it’s worth pushing them out of their comfort zone

The "Frieren angle" thing, apart from just being delightful, also completely demolishes the pathetic "AI is democratising art" argument. Someone struggling with a difficult drawing received advice from hundreds of strangers who just wanted to help them improve their art.

BIRDCAGE has a screen that gives explicit scoring information. I really like this. Not every game sees fit to include this but some more modern releases like Devil Blade Reboot, Gunvein and now BIRDCAGE (among others) do so, and it's great!

The devs threw down the gauntlet with regard to this, in the reveal / overview stream they did for this update. "Who can 100% all challenges with the difficulty modifiers each set to their utter maximums?"

Ultimate Assassin difficulty is definitely noticeable in terms of guard detection compared to the previous hard/Master Assassin, but not as crushingly difficult as I anticipated.
I think I'd comfortably basegame Permadeath + FullClear Replays with maxed-out Custom Sliders (200% all values).

Valley of Memory was pretty good for a free update. It's a reasonable amount of new stealth encounters, including one Main Assassination which is the big centerpiece and will get the most replays.

Cool thread that touches on why Fusion is my favorite Metroid game.
It's an attempt not to remake Metroid Fusion but to override its existence. That in itself is a wrong step. Fusion specifically is a surprisingly thoughtful psychological crisis the character is having physically manifest. You know, kinda like Silent Hill but less literal about demons being demons.

The worst part about Open World games is that the average gamer genuinely sees it as a step up, so once your franchise becomes open world its fucked forever because they'd see it as regressing otherwise
