The police will be traumatised, but a young man is dead. Restrained for ‘several minutes’ & became unconscious- discovered as other police came. It doesn’t take more to conclude that assessing his status was ignored

How do I describe systemic genocide that exists even now according to the United Nations genocide convention?

The ‘Stolen Generation’ as it’s named never stopped.

Name a thing, claim a thing…

There’s no treaties to stop it going on.

Just scandalous. You know it’s bad when the NT news chooses to highlight it.

And without prejudging anything, yesterday’s death in Alice Springs has very disturbing resonances.

I’ll just leave this here for your edification.

Today is National #SorryDay , a commemoration and remembrance of all those who have been impacted by the government policies of forcible removal that have resulted in the Stolen Generations.

Always #SorryDay
Reflection … This week marks National Reconciliation Week, and began with National Sorry Day - a time to reflect on the truth of our shared history, and the pain still carried by many Aboriginal families.

On #SorryDay, I reflect on my long and ongoing journey of understanding the true history of #Australia and the issues faced by #Indigenous #Australians. My journey began with reading Alice Nannup's memoir and realising her connection with my Nan. 🖤💛❤️

Alice Nannup and My Nan
I bought When The Pelican Laughed in 1992. It was the first book I'd read with a personal account of the Stolen Generation.

Today is National Sorry Day. Truth, justice, healing in that order because without truth there can be no healing.

Detailed education on Sorry Day from the always brilliant and staunch Ren Wyld. I learnt from this thread! Fellow settlers would do well to read and think about what it means to be with the fact of Sorry Business at the hands of recent and ongoing colonial atrocities. #SorryDay
PSA: it's Sorry Day today, not Apology Day. Learn the difference. And please be respectful.

May 26 is National Sorry Day.

We reflect on the recommendations in the Bringing Them Home report, and we have hope that the reforms in the Uluru Statement From the Heart will be borne out to shape an Australia for all Australians.

#sorryday. I feel sorry for the inhumane treatment of First Nations People. The massacres. The stolen generations. The incarceration.

Losing the Voice referendum to ignorance and prejudice is a recent setback.

Now and into the future, I wish for realness, respectful change, and healing.

WHO AM I? is my very small contribition to acknowledging the impacts of inhumane stealing of children under harsh policies of "protection". Designed for students, Mary's is a story that will speak to all open hearts and minds.

This morning on the land of the Yorta Yorta Nation I attended the Rural City of Wangaratta's National #SorryDay event. This well attended event (particularly in light of the weather) was hosted by siblings Anita & Kevin (Cooper). They shared their family's experiences of #StolenGeneration policy.

Today is National Sorry Day. I want to say sorry for the Stolen Generations. Sorry for the record numbers of First Nations children in out of home care today. We need to understand this is not the past, the injustices and trauma continue. We must Listen. Learn. Act
