First time out for a while because of nerve problem in hip & leg. But made the effort to walk up to Noah's lake at Ham Wall this morning to see my first American wigeon. Found it after 3 hrs looking at thousands of duck,think I got wigeon eye!!. No chance of pic. #UKBirding. #Somersetbirding.

Burnham beach this morning and we spent an hour watching the Kentish Plover in beautiful sunshine. As the tide came in so the Plovers gradually came closer until they all upped and flew towards Stert Island. Nice to see a Sanderling as well. #somersetbirding #ukbirding

Good day out around Somerset. WF Geese at Sharpham and Pawlett Hams, Tundra Bean Geese at Pawlett Hams, Black Necked Grebe and 4 Scaup at Cheddar Reservoir. Also: Perregrine, Sparrowhawk, Egrets, Lapwings, Barnacle Goose.

Inexplicably haven’t seen a Great White Egret in Yeovil since 2019, despite them being common around Illchester, so finding two in an egret roost scopable from Combe Street Lane was a really nice bonus tonight. No geese but 3+ Cattle Egret flew NW #ukbirding #somersetbirding

Pretty galling to distantly see c50 grey geese flying S between Yeovil and Illchester this am. Couldn’t refind them but 2 Cattle Egrets at Lower Carents Farm & 1 Cattle Egret, 2 GWE, Marsh Harrier & 7+ Green Sand on the floods around Illchester. 300+ Lapwing through south #ukbirding #somersetbirding

The Kingfishers at Ninesprings have always been tame but lately taking it to a ridiculous degree. It was surrounded by a decent crowd of onlookers all afternoon while it caught a good number of small fish #ukbirding #somersetbirding

A mobile Yellow-browed Warbler was working the trees along the path between Silk Mills Park & Ride and the western end of the lake at Roughmoor this morning. Associating loosely with two Chiffchaff.

A respectable 77 species around Steart Marshes and Stert Point today. Highlights: 7 White-fronted Geese on Otterhampton Marshes. Plus 5 Brent Geese, 2 Little Stint, Med Gull, Short-eared Owl, 3 Water Pipit #somersetbirding

Wet Moor absolutely on fire this pm: Bonaparte's Gull, 3 Bewick's Swans, 50+ Whitefronts, 5 Tundra Beans, Garganey, and plenty of Cranes. That after a brief Penduline Tit at Shapwick Heath this am (on 30th anniversary of my 1st ones at Dungeness), plus a Firecrest. Not a bad day!
