Told a friend about my shisa today. If I go to Okinawa perhaps I'll pick up an open-mouth friend for this one.
A shisa, or guardian lion dog, believed to protect the home it guards. This one is a closed-mouth version to keep in good spirits, and is adorned a beautiful hue of blue and has red and yellow adornments.

It was hard keeping a straight face trying to paint this model at this angle. Have another goofy screenshot, and a render of the glaive itself. Inspiration of Monster Hunter glaives, Shiisa dogs, and the spider lotus flower. When I finally draw myself a fursona, I will have them posing with it.
Similar to quoted post, this Shiisa dog face is uncomfortable close to the camera, and goofy. Unpainted, it looks like it is made out of shiny black rubber or plastic. A 3d model of a glaive. It is has a dark red staff, with a terracotta shisa head biting the base of the blade. The blade is metalic and just from the shiisa's mouth as if a tounge. The blade as fire impressions. At the bottom of the glaive is a terracotta ball, bound to the staff with red rope. From the ropp are red tassles tipped with yellow balls in the style of a spider lilly.

Whenever I'm at Japan Center Malls in San Francisco and I pass this mural, I quickly identify all sixteen Toho Studios kaiju out loud. Rarely does anyone I happen to be with have a clue what I'm saying, much less express appreciation for this talent, but I still think it's an impressive feat.
Large mural by artist E.J. Su, located on a wall at San Francisco's Japan Center. It features sixteen giant monsters of Japanese cinema. In the top left corner are Mothra, a giant heroic moth; and Jet Jaguar, a colorful humanoid robot. Below them are Kumonga, a giant spider; and Gigan, a vaguely humanoid green and gold alien with horns on its head, a buzzsaw on its belly, and silver claws for hands. To the right of these monsters are Titanosaurus, a bipedal dinosaur; King Caesar, a shisa or guard statue come to life; and Varan, an obscure winged monster not unlike a flying squirrel (seen here flying in front of a mountain). Nearby, Godzilla, a giant irradiated dinosaur, blasts its atomic breath toward Mecha-King Ghidorah, a flying three-headed golden dragon (of which one head, its midsection, and parts of its wings are mechanical) as SpaceGodzilla, a monster similar in appearance to Godzilla albeit assimilated by a crystalline organism, flies overhead. Minilla, a goofy child version of Godzilla and the franchise's own Jar-Jar Binks or Scrappy Doo, stands beside Godzilla as Rodan, a prehistoric flying monster, soars overhead. Nearby, Baragon, a quadrupedal horned monster; and Mecha-Godzjlla, a robotic version of Godzilla, face off against Godzilla, Minilla, and Rodan. Behind them, and partially hidden behind a sandwich board, is Hedorah, the smog monster. Biollante, a massive plant monster is mostly obscured by an open door, though one of its fanged plant tendrils can be seen over Hedorah.
