#shareholdercapitalism
Hello there: GDP is mostly a measure of how the #shareholdercapitalism economy is robbing the average worker blind, and creating immeasurable suffering beyond their 'divine edict' of quarterly gains..

If you want to find out more about how #shareholdercapitalism is blocking the energy transition, a chapter of my book on finance has a lot of detail. If you don't have time to read it all, try an AI summary using Perplexity or Claude, for example

Raising interest rates has NO EFFECT on inflation. Monetary policy in it's current form is not fit for purpose - how long will the charade continue?

#monetarypolicy #shareholdercapitalism #shareholders
Patrick Imam and Tigran Poghosyan show that despite earlier and sharper tightening, inflation targeting central banks did not achieve systematically better outcomes than their non-targeting peers during the 2022 global inflation surge.

Dual interest rates, one-for-one capital requirements rule on fossil lending, and taxes for #shareholders

#shareholdercapitalism
We show that interest rate hikes by central banks are less powerful in reducing inflation than conventional wisdom suggests. Correcting for publication bias, the output cost of reducing inflation increases. Based on our meta-study of 145,000 point estimates and confidence bounds.

Banking shareholders carry zero risk, are just waiting for their own self-induced financial crisis, and tax people for paying for the privilege of eventually bailing them out

#shareholdercapitalism
Finally, someone gets it. Banks screw everyone, period. Tax them, and you have won; link those taxes to fossil fuels and you have probably averted the next financial crisis and enabled a fully-fledged energy transition, all in one go

Third time lucky: Meloni seeks compromise on bank tax after past failures
This time, Rome appears to have learned its lesson, and is planning to engage more proactively with Italy’s banks, which are open to compromise.

#Shareholdercapitalism, #neoliberalism, #deregulation and #financialisation will not survive if they continue as they are

DJT's US is trying hard to self-destruct, but once climate change becomes severe, this reckless behaviour would spell the end of long-term investing and the financial system

Ajay Banga, new president of the World Bank, is obviously much better than David Malpass (useless). But the World Bank has limited resources

In some ways, it's about #shareholdercapitalism and the self-defeating process that for example even EU central banking is getting trapped in..

Many different paths for the future. Bankers should take note - they will lose profoundly if the western banking system falls apart

#Shareholders are both the problem, and the solution. Only a shift in monetary policy will bring the market to invest heavily in net zero, and give up on fossil fuels entirely (or, before the carbon bubble bursts)

This is the same in many countries where #shareholdercapitalism has a hold on politics and #monetarypolicy; protecting the #carbonbubble is most of what the ECB do - although there has been recent reform and things are moving in the correct direction

postscript I have to write #shareholdercapitalism rather than shareholdercapitalist because the hyperlink works; it won't with incorrect spelling

Why are shareholders responsible for the climate crisis?

Because they are the ones who profit

This is mostly a western thing, but for NOCs (national oil companies) such as Aramco or Sinopec, they are making significant, massive investments in hydrogen

Not so in the #shareholdercapitalism economy

Lol. I love the sideline in 'I am evil, so are you, and let's pretend no-one knows about us'. Classic #shareholdercapitalism

Because shit-stirring at this level is innocent, jovial and not at all precisely what is wrong with 'economists', neoliberals and the entire #shareholdercapitalism deathmarch

And hey, if you are investing heavily in military hardware manufacture then you know the best thing that could happen, right

Why not define that as #shareholdercapitalism: I think liberal capitalism is too generous - it is better to know who are accumulating/capitalising eg not liberals..

But yes, particularly finance will change given the extended time horizons associated with low-carbon/high-capex investment

Shareholders and the financial structures that facilitate their profit-making are the cause of our western malaise. #Shareholdercapitalism is what is currently hollowing out the US, wholesale. However, state capitalism or stakeholder capitalism remains elusive
August 2, 2025 at 10:25 AM
These things will happen, because it is so absolutely obvious that the alternatives are cheaper, healthier and are cognisant of our ecological horizon limits

The problem is #shareholdercapitalism / #neoliberalism: the true depravity of the western system

Hard, strong rules must be implemented

Answers? I have no good ones. Unemployed young people should scare the politicos more than they appear to. Especially in a country where the number of guns per capita is greater than 1.0.
