🦖 Daily Paleo 🦖; Philovenator curriei

From Late Cretaceous Wulanshuhai Formation, China, "Currie's love hunter" is a small troodontid known from a 2 feet long juvenile holotype specimen that was first thought to be a young Saurornithoides. It likely had keen senses

🦖 Daily Paleo 🦖; Saurornithoides mongoliensis

From Late Cretaceous Djadochta Formation, Mongolia, "lizard bird form" was the first troodontid known from body fossils. Its bird-like skull had a large brain with keen senses and large eyes with stereoscopic vision for depth perception

Or "Troodon". No care for Saurornithoides and the like for some reason, only that specific name.

Non atopamos máis aves da época dos dinosauros ata os anos 80; sí algúns dinosauros semellantes a aves: Ornithomimus, Ornitholestes, Saurornithoides... pero en 1926 o artista danés Heilmann publica A Orixe das Aves, onde contradice a Huxley, e a conexión dino-ave queda descartada ata 1969.

Osborn's Ornithoids, 100 years later (Oviraptor philoceratops, Saurornithoides mongoliensis, and Velociraptor mongoliensis).

of course, this means the same is true for Oviraptor and Saurornithoides as they were described at the same time!

I’m a little late to the party on this, but Happy Centennial to Velociraptor, Saurornithoides and Oviraptor!

Incredible to think that, as of three days ago, it's been 100 years since these three were revealed to the world.

in the #saurornithoides I thought of it occupying an animal similar to land #falcons such as the #caracara, #secretary and the #siriema with the last two being from another lineage of #raptors

Taking advantage of the fact that today these three complete 100 years since their description, some quick sketches of #oviraptor, #saurornithoides and #velociraptor.

🎉Velociraptor, Saurornithoides, and Oviraptor turn 💯 today!

On November 7, 1924, Henry F. Osborn published his description of these three small theropods. 🦖

Still thinking that the Sereno definitions of Dromaeosauridae and Troodontidae makes them feel far less diverse than what they were. If it felt to me:
Dromaeosauridae: Dromaeosaurus + Velociraptor + Deinonychus.
Saurornithoididae: Stenonychosaurus + Saurornithoides.

Saurornithoides ("The bird-like saurian") is from the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia. A partial skeleton including the skull were found ~100 years ago by an American Museum expedition, making it the first ever troodontid known from non-tooth fossils. #paleontology

July 9, 1923: Fossils of a new dinosaur, Saurornithoides, are discovered in a Mongolia expedition by the American Museum of Natural History. A worker, Chih, finds the skull and other bones of the velociraptor-like predator. No other fossils of the genus will be found until 1964.
