Sandhill crane flying across a Wisconsin farm field. I'll bet the cranes never forget their migration journeys.... and neither will I. It was a great time spotting and photographing them in the farm fields this year. #birds #SandhillCranes

I try to get to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta every year to see overwintering #SandhillCranes. Sandhills mate for life and travel with their young from their breeding grounds up north. They rest and sleep in the water to more easily detect approaching predators.

🔊 Sound on! Sandhill Cranes are sensitive to rising water. They love shallow mud for probing for food but seek deep water at night for safety. 🦢🕯️

As the Refuge gets wetter, many head north to the fields in Woodland. Catch them while you can! ✨

This is a typical scene during Sandhill migration. Birds are constantly taking off and landing in various locations in the fields with hundreds of cranes in the background. Such a special time. Here's a few of one pair lifting off.

The Wisconsin farm fields near the Wisconsin River are quite picturesque. Many trees and rolling hills provide beautiful backgrounds for the Sandhill migration event.

The farm field irrigation ditches were a popular place during migration after the water froze this year.
