Pawpaw: Appalachia’s Native Fruit That Never Left, We Just Forgot About It
There are a lot of plants in Appalachia that people walk past every day without giving a second thought. Pawpaw might be the best example of that. It is not rare, not endangered, and not difficult to find if you know where to look. It is simply overlooked, quietly doing what it has always done while everyone else chases something new.

Made dragonball sticker designs, helped organize & create graphics/art for a small fan event, carved a cool pumpkin, pinned my first cicada, tried my first pawpaw, tried boxing class, finally visited local botanical garden I wanted to visit for a while, did nail art Once, picked many small tomatoes
Quote this with what you have accomplished in 2025, no matter how big or small
Reading & writing has kept me alive this year.

Somehow, it’s been my most productive year as an author.

Here’s a guide to what I’ve published in 2025, in case you’ve lost track.

Orange is gone. Sundowning like a big dog. He basically didn’t say a damn thing except his typical “in two weeks BS. So old & tired. PawPaw needs to be in memory care FFS!
Russia's idea of "helping" is not something anyone wants.

IDK which would be worse, Trump actually being dumb enough to believe this, or Trump blatantly lying about something this important.

Either way, it's humiliating for every American, whether they know it or not.
[Q]: In your conversation with president Putin, did you discuss what responsibility Russia will have for any kind of reconstruction of Ukraine post the agreement?

President Trump: I did. They're going to be helping. Russia is going to be helping.

Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed.

I’d never heard of it.

Don’t think it would survive a Chicago winter.

But the taste & texture you describe sounds like a pawpaw

4) "pot" as opposed to "weed." one way ticket to sounding old as hell if you say pot instead of weed. "i hate the smell of pot" sorry pawpaw get over it
5) the phrase "oh, baby." when used unironically. even when used ironically actually. get out of my room.

Great book, nice job on the edit, alongside chefs and farmers I spoke to its author used it in reporting this piece below

Gave a copy of the book to a friend recently and a hardcover version sits on my bookshelf

Currently have a freezer jammed with pawpaw pulp from my trees:
Climate Change Could Make Pawpaws a Valuable Crop for Northern Farmers
North America's native tropical fruit may soon have a broader growing range as the climate changes. Some farmers are exploring pawpaws as a potential new cash crop.

If anyone has the details on a pawpaw grove in the western MA area I promise I’ll keep it secret and only take what I can use 🥺🥺🥺

To ”MAN” quoted at the end of the transcript: I teach kids about pawpaws! 🙋‍♀️ Every year, my students read an article about what the author calls “forgotten fruits,” and the pawpaw is the first one explored in the article. This was fun to read!! 😊

Apples, oranges and bananas are sold in abundance in supermarkets throughout the country. But some say the most American fruit is one you’ll likely never see in the produce department, and it’s one you’ve probably never heard of. It's the Pawpaw.

“As much as ‘Pawpaw’ is a compendium of pawpaw knowledge, it also plumbs deeper questions about American foodways—how economic, biologic, and cultural forces combine, leading us to eat what we eat, and sometimes to ignore the incredible, delicious food growing all around us.”
My first book acquisition and one of my favorite editing experiences was Andrew Moore’s wonderful (and award-winning) Pawpaw. Highly recommend.

I can send you some of the pawpaw bitters if you're interested!

I used to drink Pisco sours until I realized that I don't like Pisco sours. 😄

Anyway, I like the pawpaw bitters in Old-fashioneds (incl brandy ones) or with a bourbon or TN whiskey on the rocks. I've also used them a var on a Wondrich cocktail called the Hold Fast (whiskey, Gran Marnier, bitters).

We have a local pawpaw enthusiast who grows them and sells the fruit and trees who gave me a bottle of his homemade bitters. I was going to review them for my blog but was afraid that the feds might take issue with him selling alcohol-based bitters w/o the required licenses or whatever.
