theres also a proposed destruction of a very old grassland remnant by a data center. grasslands have the potential to store about 40% more carbon than closed canopy forests btw. we need them as much as the quail and turkey and deer need them

the bessemer data center is wildly unpopular nobody wants it but officials are acting like they dont have fucking ears and are soooooo ready to tear down 700 acres of forest and put in 18 buildings that are 250,000sqft EACH right on a creek containing the imperiled birmingham darter

Growing up an animal lover with a fascination for behavior turned into a love for the environment and ecosystems as a whole especially underrepresented wetland and grasslands that carry the uncharismatic but deeply important animals I love

i remember someone telling me that they didnt like the tn aquarium bc of the amount of freshwater fish and that theyre "not interesting" and they can "see them anytime" ok so you can see tangerine darter any time you want? where?

The unfortunate part of living in an area with a lot of water and creeks and such is the amount of roads that cut through and over them. Even where I used to live in NC. I can count the times I've seen a live beaver on one hand and that's when actively seeking them out

We're getting to the time of the year we start to see a lot of aquatic mammals as road victims, I've seen 3 beavers dead in one day 😔
