#microtransaction
500 pesos is near $30... for a cosmetic outfit that is more expensive than the most expensive cosmetic outfit in The Elder Scrolls Online, which is like, $20 worth in their version of crapcoin microtransaction currency, which you get small amount for free each month your subscribed to the game.

I was devastated when I saw IV had a shop; I played the FUCK out of III and because of that, I already knew that a microtransaction opportunity would add ABSOLUTELY NOTHING MEANINGFUL to the game. Like just it *being* there was a big enough ick to get me to stop playing it pretty quickly lol

its a form of microtransaction. so yes.

there's something deeply funny and oddly honest about how path of exile just calls it the Microtransaction Shop

a little annoying that they bound it to M which is eternally the Map button in my brain tho lmao

game is just microtransaction hell now and ill admit the final shape was a fantastic dlc, it ended the light vs dark saga perfectly and was incredibly satisfying, but everything after that has been half effort stories just pulled out of bungies ass.

It is not without motivation, alot of multiplayer has just gone in a direction many people don't like, modern monitisation actively upsets the multiplayer expirience, live service, battle passes, microtransaction storefronts, daily challenges, fomo etc. It all just upsets the expirience massively.

it's barely a game, it's essentially just a microtransaction delivery system

If your only (free non-microtransaction hell) means of playing PVZ1 is on consoles for 20 dollars it’s like not thatttttttt bad of a deal given that they’ve been slowlyyyy patching its issues

Then again that is unfortunately a very specific set of circumstances-💥

gaming started to fall when FTP microtransaction games flooded the market, Exclusivity became a rarity, and greed killed hundreds of developers. which also started around the same time Iwata passed :(

The Geoff Awards are very much the worst of gaming on full display every year. Gacha slop, Hero shooter slop, Microtransaction slop, AI slop, Contract Worker Erasure.

Honestly it may be better if we all stop watching, and a lot easier given the reveals with only a few exceptions this year, sucked.
Game Awards last year took place during a videogame strike against AI

The strike wasn’t mentioned or acknowledged despite many VO performers working on the games that are heralded every year and even appearing on stage

This year a game that features AI voiceover gets a podium to accept an award.
studios using AI for voice acting sucks

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 winning as many awards as they did should be a lesson to the gaming industry. Make good games. Not looter shooter battle royale microtransaction line go up slop.

Well deserved. It was my favourite game this year, and one I will revisit many times.

Like I said, I think there's some cool stuff out there. I won't lie, the market is dominated by microtransaction and subscription models because of the saturation points. I think that people can have great reasons to stay away, especially if they have obsessive spending habits.

Microtransaction mills.
December 12, 2025 at 2:32 AM
For real though it's hilarious how Marvel Rivals succeeds in every way Pokemon Unite fails as a F2P game. Not only doing EVERY greedy microtransaction possible to get the most out of the game, but the fact you have to UNLOCK CHARACTERS THROUGH GRINDING!

hmm.. i needs a. match 3 game rec. something simple is good. if its got other stuff going on thats cool too but i really just want a really solid and fun loop. and if its on mobile it cant have any stupid ads or microtransaction bs i just wanna get sucked into the game. good music is a plus too

Other than the essence/sparkle stone situation though I am so happy with the qol and microtransaction removal that they did for complete

I want a cozy videogame where I can futz around and make little islands and towns and villages and move the buildings and sidewalks and landscaping endlessly and I don't want to be hindered by a microtransaction pay to win gameplay model. I just want to make stupid cute villages.

Does this exist?
December 11, 2025 at 7:57 PM
I was there was a good Marvel based game, like an Ultimate Alliance style game. not a bland hero shooter battle pass microtransaction multiplayer garbage.

Nintendo is usually 5 years behind on dlc/microtransaction trends, pretty sure they have entered their Villian Upsell arc 😜

Necromerger! It's gotten me through so many commutes. In a sea of asset flip microtransaction filled merge games, this one is so thoughtfully constructed and well designed. I LOVE this game and it's one of few mobile games I have paid to go ad free.
December 11, 2025 at 3:21 AM
It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The industry sees mobile as merely a target for cheap microtransaction slop because that's mostly all it is.

Mobile is mostly cheap microtransaction slop because that's all the industry sees it good for.

I just want dm folders man I don’t want microtransaction bullshit in my messaging app
December 10, 2025 at 10:54 PM
They desperately want us to drop money sending people one of the lowest-value products in the modern internet sphere, holy shit

You'd get more enjoyment out of a microtransaction cosmetic in a single-player game for fuck's sake
December 10, 2025 at 9:10 PM
I wonder how that happened! Compare "monetization strategy" of the first Angry Birds vs. the latest. It launched free w/ads and $0.99 w/o ads. That was it. Not a single microtransaction in sight for either! Just try to imagine pitching that now. They want the success without providing the value.
