#meadowhawks
also someone on inat updated my dragonfly mystery, i temporarily called it a meadowhawk just to maybe get someone to notice it (there are no meadowhawks in australia but thats what the nymph looks like) and someone labelled it Libellulidae which is the same family. honestly it might be a tau emerald

Meadowhawks (Odonata: Libellulidae: Sympetrum spp.) are small skimmer dragonflies found mostly in temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. Juveniles and females are mostly gold-colored, but mature males and some females turn red like the one shown here. Cambridge Junction Michigan, 06 Jul 2025.

Posting of Saffron-winged Meadowhawk is a reminder there is no time like the present to fly, for us metaphorically. And okay, all #dragonfly activity in the temperate parts of the country is not happening (winter). Still the message remains, think then take action. Build good habits towards 2026 :-)

once again the closest match anyone can find (and so far the only person helping me is using chatgpt...) is a genus of dragonfly that doesnt fucking live in australia. its the closest looking one ive been able to find it looks very much like a meadowhawk but we apparently dont have meadowhawks

Spotted in the garden yesterday. Late afternoon sun made for heavy shadows so this heavily cropped iPhone photo is not the most detailed. Possible ID is it’s in the genus Meadowhawks, possibly a male Autumn Meadowhawk, so named for its coloration. 🌱📷

It's getting cold where I'm at, but on my walk today I saw several yellow-legged meadowhawks, a small dragonfly, and it was so awesome.

It's the last chance for romance for the blue-faced meadowhawks, and the ladies are in serious demand. I saw two females (both actively paired up) and about two dozen males in the same strip of woods!

Late season dragonflies - Autumn meadowhawks (I think!) ... they were tandem ovipositing and there were other males slightly harassing the pair 🌿 #Invert

One of the Autumn Meadowhawks..seems to be a very large population of them this year..the red ones are the males, the females are greenish-brown with yellow legs.

I read that meadowhawks like to find places to perch while hunting & apparently my toes are very helpful rn

It's been a really good year for dragonflies in my native garden. Lately I've had lots of autumn meadowhawks!
