zuko the cat lying on a blanket on a couch, curled up. mintaka the kitten steps on and across zuko’s body as she moves from the couch arm down to the couch seat, not having noticed him. she is frozen in nervous anticipation of his reaction to her mistake. he looks perturbed. same as previous, with minnie still frozen in place, only moving her head, still stepping on zuko.

Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka are the bright bluish stars from east to west (upper right to lower left) along the diagonal in this cosmic vista. Otherwise known as the Belt of Orion, these three blue supergiant stars are hotter and much more massive than the Sun. They lie from 700 to 2,000 light-years away, born of Orion's well-studied interstellar clouds. In fact, clouds of gas and dust adrift in this region have some surprisingly familiar shapes, including the dark Horsehead Nebula and Flame Nebula near Alnitak at the upper right. The famous Orion Nebula itself is off the right edge of this colorful starfield. The telescopic frame spans almost 4 degrees on the sky.

The stars of Orion's Belt are called Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka. From our perspective, we think of them as is in a row. Years ago I was considering how far apart they are in terms of depth of field (distance from Earth), which led to an exploration of visual 3-D... er... relativity.

Der Orion [oˈʀiːɔn] ist ein markantes Sternbild, das am Himmelsäquator liegt. Es ist weltweit Mitte Dezember gut zu sehen, weil es um Mitternacht dann hoch über dem Horizont steht und sich die Sonne auf der Gegenseite des Sternenhimmels weit unterhalb des Horizonts befindet. Für nördliche Breitengrade wie in Mitteleuropa gilt das wegen des dortigen Winters mit seinen langen Nächten in besonderem Maße, und das Sternbild ist um Mitternacht dort verhältnismäßig hoch über dem südlichen Horizont zu sehen. Das Sternbild hat mit Rigel und Beteigeuze zwei Sterne erster Größe. Drei Sterne zweiter Größe stellen den Gürtel des Orion dar: Alnitak (Zeta Orionis), Alnilam (Epsilon Orionis) und Mintaka (Delta Orionis). Das Sternbild enthält ein ausgedehntes Sternentstehungsgebiet, dessen auffälligste Komponente der mit bloßem Auge sichtbare Orionnebel ist.
