Bob Seger System - Ramblin' Gamblin' Man (1968)
What, I'm posting Bob Seger?! No, I'm not trying to be a contrarian, honest, this is just a great single, with as far as I can see almost zero relation to his later work. He doesn't even have a beard.

2nd Curtis pick in my list, could also have very easily gone for the title track.
Curtis Mayfield - Freddie's Dead (1972)

Heatwave - Martha Reeves & the Vandellas (1963)
When I normally rant about Heatwave, I talk about the closing Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but the moment it really buys a place here is Reeves' vocal kicking in and just hitting like the cool breeze on the hot day, and sweeps you away

Day 1
20th Century Boy | T. Rex
March 1973 - #3 UK
Full of sass, and *that* riff. Bolan pretty much had things sussed at that time.

More beauty through tragedy. It seems that more people are aware of Judee now the documentary is out - if not, then here you go-

Vocal hooks, heavenly harmonies galore, and a new shining star. If only we could have kept it that way.

Bowie’s first hit since 1969 that doesn’t feature guitarist Mick Ronson.

20) THE Byrds - Eight Miles High (1966)
There were plenty of singles hinting at or proto-psychedelia before this, but surely it's the first big, all-out, full-on psychedelic single, and one of the best.

It's not eligible, as I said only two days ago.
It's a 1976 single release and qualified through #Let5D0It.

Minnie Riperton - Les Fleurs ('71)
The delicate verses are wonderful, but the song fully takes flight during the rhapsodic chorus. It's so overwhelming in its joy that it can almost make you believe in Minnie's naive vision of humanity for its duration.

Day 5
Baba O’Riley | The Who
October 1971
The towering opener from Who’s Next didn’t even get a UK or US single release, but it squeezes in here because it did in Europe and Australia. Not a Who aficionado but this is immense.

"In dreams" - Roy Orbison
1963
Written by Roy Orbison
When first played, Roy received a standing ovation that went on, and on, and on. Only when the headliners (The Beatles) came out to play did the applause stop.
