The new #Kinship report is clear that much more needs to be done to ensure that all #KinshipFamilies get the support they need and deserve. I’ll continue to advocate for #KinshipCarers and their children in South Shields. #KinshipCareWeek

Our research found that nearly half of in-work #KinshipCarers left employment when they took on the care of a relative or friend's child, and 8 in 10 of them have never returned to paid work. A lack of statutory paid leave is pushing them into poverty and the benefits sytem unnecessarily.

Today I marched with #KinshipCarers on the Treasury to call for financial support that reflects the cost of stepping in to look after a child when parents are not able to. It was great to meet and speak to kinship carers from across the UK and understand more about what they do

It was great to march with #KinshipCarers today, who have stepped up overnight to care for the children in their lives. It’s time the Government listens to their call to #valueourlove and give them financial allowances
