#OnThisDay 24th of November 1982, Nan Joyce became the first Traveller to stand in an Irish election.

Joyce was co-chairperson of the Committee for the Rights of Travellers, which had been formed earlier that year.

As Jim Gavin is a candidate with no legal background, zero political experience, and is a FF member, I don't imagine he fits the bill for the Irish public.

Early indications that far-right candidates in Ireland aren't as popular as those here in the States.

Sounds like a cohesive governing coalition is going to be difficult to achieve, though: plenty of issues divide the Irish.

Still, I remain hopeful.

#GE24. Definitely more ‘sport’ than ‘endurance’. We love the process; the intrigue; and mostly we accept the outcome as the will of the people. I too hope #IrishElections never change!!
