Smothering Tithe + Pain’s Reward is a nifty damned if you do / damned if you don’t. I started the bid at 14 but it’s either I win the bid and lose 14 and draw 14 or you out bid me and draw more and I make that many treasures
Also Inkshield for 30 Inklings wasn’t bad either 🤣

I think I've cast Inkshield 3 times. 1st they cast Ezuri's Predation in Main 2, 2nd got countered (Through Reprieve backup), 3rd didn't make enough Inklings to win before they killed the table next turn (and they had some trample or unblockable or whatever so I couldn't turtle up).

That’s fair. Inkshield is strong, I think it has a more play than Cyc since turn order, amount of damage coming at you, and opp life totals all matter, but it can be a game winner for sure
In the scenario you’re describing, I’d argue the biggest issue is the tutor. But your POV makes sense to me!

That’s fair. Inkshield is strong, I think it has a more play than Cyc since turn order, amount of damage coming at you, and opp life totals all matter, but it can be a game winner for sure

Can you expand on this? I’ve been on the dealing and receiving end of Inkshield a few times. It can be powerful but I’ve never heard anyone take any grievance with it

And ultimately the honus of Commander comes back to intent, and how the format is balanced around players w/ likeminded intentions
Like I draw that line at telling opponents about Umbral Mantle combos but NOT about gotcha cards like Inkshield
