We need to make sure our new IHSS worker is queer friendly cause we need someone who's gonna help us and respect us. Calling us by our prefered name, and using proper pronouns. It's literally not that hard. - Lyla

I'm fucking losing it. The average IHSS provider in this county makes less than $18k a year, I only make just under $15k a year!

We are thrilled that yesterday, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors approved our contract for IHSS workers that includes better raises and strengthened benefits. Thank you to everyone who fought tirelessly to make this contract happen. When we fight, we WIN!

Do they have IHSS where you are? (In-house social services) i know here it's covered by Medicare, but idk about your state/county.

#Nacionales El 26 de enero se cierra la intervención del IHSS y se activa el proceso legal para nombrar una nueva junta directiva. Sin reformas y con pendientes estructurales, el Seguro Social vuelve al modelo tradicional⏳⚖️

1. my spouse & our cat if she would just stop being a shark.

2. my IHSS worker.

3. watching this meeting come into its own, with I think 20 people attending tonight, some for the second week in a row, some for their first meeting ever, both residents & not. need more pamphlets.

but since IHSS worker is currently homeless & living out of an RV in the neighbourhood I'm having her come in as family & seeing what the new combined situation can make happen.

live-in would also make it easier for her to do the things above/beyond what IHSS pays for.

fingers crossed.

means testing also creates infinite waste.

if you would just give people what they actually needed, it would cost way less and use fewer resources.

example: i’m an IHSS caregiver. my client uses 20-25 hrs a week (at $20/hr, paid by the state) because they don’t have safe transportation.
Can we stop fucking means testing people?

If you’re still doing this, you are in fact an asshole.

People die from hunger, freezing to death, preventable diseases, and so much more.

Just be kind and help people without making them jump through hoops.

The price of a cup of Starbucks overpriced coffee, once a month.

I know you are responsible coffee drinkers and only drink fair trade coffee and would never frequent Starbucks because they don't support unions, right?

Well, I am Union labor. I work with IHSS, as a home healthcare aid.

This is a crucial part of helping families like mine. Keeping programs like Medi-Cal and IHSS funded. It’s not a magic wand but it’s going to keep us afloat.

IHSS (In Home Support Services) will be paying my wife to act as a caregiver for my oldest son, who needs protective supervision to live safely in our house. It couldn’t have come at a better time. We have been stretched sooo thin trying to manage reduced hours and telework to help our kids.

Went through one of the hardest years of our lives so far in 2025. We landed the bird with good news though — we got approved for IHSS hours for our kids. We started this process in January! It took so long and there were many hoops to jump through but we did it.

It's not where she thinks it is. The people who are in IHSS (In Home SupportiveServices) are regulated by the state. And you go through a very vigorous background check by Care Provider Management Branch (CPMB).

(my dad is absolutely not going to stand for her being in any sort of dangerous living situation while being employed by us. even when she was just our cleaning lady not also our IHSS person. the people who work for us in these capacities become family that we choose.)

I'm very, very happy to get to say that our IHSS person is doing pretty good all circumstances given, still sober, just been chasing resources & sans a phone because her ex-bf turned her phone off when he kicked her to the curb. she's got where she's staying tonight all set.

after the few days of being entirely off the grid my IHSS worker has contacted me & will be coming over later today. I'm relieved, since she has become like family to us.

however we do still need to find a secondary IHSS worker, to cover weekends when necessary or she has an appointment etc.
also, apropos nothing, my spouse & I (both #Disabled) urgently need an #IHSS worker/aide. we're located in northern #LosAngeles (ZIP code 91405).

our current person is having a life crisis & hasn't checked in in over 24 hours. meanwhile we still have care needs to be met. just #DisabledLife stuff.

Somewhat modeled after IHSS (in-home supportive services) in California, which has been positively life changing for many people here, while being less expensive than nursing and group homes.

But when selecting between nice things and ass cancer certain voters…🤷‍♂️

work done during the IHSS certification process is unpaid until LiveScan background check goes through, at which point there's backpay available. we cannot afford to pay that, should someone not be approved. we can help with some gas money if needed during the certification process.

#IHSS experience preferred but not required. position is temporary with the possibility of permanent depending on our current person's life crisis resolving (or not). if she does come back. there will continue to be approximately ten to fifteen hours per week available, mostly weekends.
