.com isn't crucial unless targeting an older demographic that might expect it and miss your site.

I checked 4 recent YC companies, and none use .com—they opted for .tech, .dev, .ai, and .health.

So, which is better: hyperspace(.so) or hyperclay(.com)?

Claude: Okay, I'll write about how stupid Hyperclay is.

Me: Ouch.

Hyperclay's architecture involves a NodeJS server & frontend JS, updating the DOM & overwriting the HTML file. It's ideal for single developers or content editors. Future plans include pushing updates to forked apps, addressing a key challenge. #Hyperclay 2/6

Comparisons were drawn to TiddlyWiki & other single-file apps. A key difference: Hyperclay uses a server for persistence, unlike TiddlyWiki's fully self-contained model. This highlights a core trade-off in "portable" web apps. #SingleFileApps 3/6

Build web apps like you're sculpting clay, not managing infrastructure. Modern web development forces you through layers of abstraction: config files, build steps, magic frameworks, deployment pipelines. Hyperclay returns to a simpler model: your app is a single HTML file you (and your clients) manipulate directly. Edit the file through its visual UI and it persists its own state. What if web apps were as simple to edit as documents? Hyperclay makes it possible: UI, logic, and data live in one self-modifying HTML file. Edit it live. Share it instantly. Download and use it locally.

Ultimately, Hyperclay highlights a tension: the dream of simple, truly portable web apps vs. the practicalities of server-side persistence & browser security models. It pushes boundaries while revealing current web limitations. #FutureOfWeb 6/6

The main consideration is that we can only sync things reflected into the DOM, as you explore with hyperclay this requires a certain approach to making web pages

bsky.app/profile/chri...
The elephant in the room is this supposes an architecture that treats the DOM as read/write rather than the prevailing architecture of top-down rendering that largely treats the DOM as read-only... which I think is a better architecture tbh, maybe more on that in the future..

After working on it on-and-off for 12 weeks, my new personal website is up!

It's inspired by terminal emulators, 80s video games, and code editors.

My favorite part is I can edit it directly on the web from anywhere just by clicking and typing (thanks to hyperclay)
