With #HurricaneMelissa in #Jamaica (as with #HurricaneMaria in #PuertoRico 8 years ago) those with #RooftopSolar had lights & power again almost immediately. And started helping their community almost immediately. (While PR's grid energy system *still* hasn't recovered.)

At least 160 schools remained closed to teaching and learning in early December, weeks after the passage of #HurricaneMelissa but schools are expected to reopen on January 6, 2026, says Fayval Williams, Minister of Finance. 59 schools are still being used as shelters for people displaced by Melissa.

When #HurricaneMelissa, a cat 5 storm, hit #Jamaica, the most affected area was Black River,on the water where most all buildings, flora and infrastructure (water, electricity) were destroyed- Less than 2 months later, leaves are starting to appear on the Guango trees, giving hope.

I’ve received several reports of Cuban Treefrogs showing up in people’s bathrooms and showers 🐸🚿

#HurricaneMelissa destroyed boats & farm *equipment* as well as homes & communities. Flooded farmland with saltwater. Infiltrated into surface and even some groundwater. Some can be repaired w/ money. Some only time can fix.
