#furscience
Shout out to @furscience.bsky.social.
Yesterday I meet a guy with psychology background that was very curious about a lot of the thinking within our fandom. Eg. Why some animals are more popular, and similar.
I just had to forward him to the furscience webpage to make him very happy.

I think furscience gas species estimation? You could try that maybe

According to Furscience, statistically, the most common fursona is "some kind of canid". However, that does not mean that the "majority" of furries are dogs.

Figure 11.23 on page 313 of the FurScience Research book: "Subgroup ratingsof how positively they are viewed within the furry culture (7-point scale)". At the bottom: Nazifurs ~2/7, Babyfurs ~3/7; at the very top Artists ~6.8/7

I finally picked up a copy of @furscience.bsky.social

I’ve been looking forward to reading this collection of research articles for a long time.

This will be a very slow and reflective read, because I want to develop that deeper understanding of the furry community - and also myself as a furry.

The few sections in the Furscience book that touch on babyfurs are really interesting from a sociology/social psych/stats nerd perspective: 2nd most hated sub group, likely only slightly more than nazifurs. Yet skew the results for fiscal success and volunteerism.

Yikes…

Just Googled “is there a dark side of #furry culture.”

(Please, forgive my ignorance. This is the first i’ve heard about any of this.)

Reaaaaaaly hoping this doesn’t lead to another big wave of furry stigma.

According to the 2020 furscience Con survey, 12.5% of respondents were trans, which is a very high amount compared to most population groups.

So this would hit the community intersections hard.
People are going to learn a lot about Groypers, Pepe the Frog, Furries, Helldivers 2, 4Chan and a bunch more this weekend.

And they will be absolutely terrified.

@furscience.bsky.social I just receaved my Furscience book and idk, I am a bit disappointed in the quality. I am aware that you probably just sell them through the anazib distributing service, but they came unpackaged with already slightly bent and demaged covers and 1/2

There is no way for me to summarise the furscience identity talk - what did jump out for me is the change that I felt when I no longer needed to hide this side of myself.

Felt like shedding an armour I needed to hide behind. Freeing. Am snep. Hear me mow!

Furries, do your part and participate in #furscience! Whether you're currently at #eurofurence or not, take this survey: furscience.com/research-par...
It helps to drive proper science, and that already has made a difference in explaining to "normies" that we're not just sick weirdos.

For fellow research/science furs, “furscience” collects a whole bunch of research papers on the furry fandom. Highly recommended if you’re into academic articles.

His other crony Photographotter would also be GoH while he desperately attempted to push GSFTW propaganda on old posts including towards a BIPOC who condemned it, his exclusive VR panel resurrecting Sylys for it & continuing to talk on behalf of others who have done research he hasn't.

My brother doesn't believe furries are a real thing. he is a person who keeps a Facebook so he can post official photos of his Government Activities for my mom.

I used to work at (and live down the road from) the university that has the Furscience research group.

We are very different people.

From furscience

"A small subset of furries (~10%), called “therians,” believe they are spiritually connected to animals, are less than (or more than) 100% human, are an animal trapped in a human body, or were an animal in a former life"

According to the 2020 furry census, the furry fandom is roughly 76% queer.

I started to reply to him with this information but frankly, I don't have the mental energy.

I just noticed this article on furscience on therians. Within it they talk about common characteristics of therians/kin and other nonhumans.

One can and many will argue that its because we are mentally unwell but I think everyone here can tell why.

18.6% in 2020. Furscience doesnt have updated data that is more recent.
