Summer View of Mount Rainier from Chinook Pass
I love this view from Chinook Pass. The rugged peaks in front give Mount Rainier depth and scale, making it feel larger and more dominant.

Climate change is killing this PNW tree. In Europe they want to plant it.
Western redcedars are declining at home, but they’re climate change winners in Central Europe.
Starting in 2017 western redcedar trees in OR and WA started dying off in record numbers.

What do you do when there’s no snow in the mountains? Head to the coast range and look at cool fungi.

Winter Light and Low Clouds
Caught the last light on this ridge as low clouds moved through the trees. It only lasted a few minutes, but it was worth stopping for.

What draws your eye first here, the warm light on the ridge or the low clouds moving through the trees below?

the forest service started managing forests for fire prevention following a huge fire over a century ago, when John Muir was still alive, there's an American Experience about it, it's beyond specious!

the PNW has been hurt far more by boise cascade and over-development than by environmentalists JFC

Mountain bikers often miss the forest—they’re too focused on hitting features.

Looks great! Forest photography is very challenging- there’s never enough light and contrast can be extreme. It’s not my typical subject matter, but the PNW is very compelling. This one was shot with my Super Graphic on 4x5 TMX and dev’d in Ichor 1:100, 13:00, semi-stand. More wind than I wanted.

Trying out some super high contrast black and white photoshop work with some random old hiking photos. I quite like it. May have to print and frame a few like these.

It's unseasonably warm for our winter, even living in a temperate rain forest -- Our local meteorologists have been saying for the last 2 to 3 weeks that the cold snap will be 2 to 3 weeks out. The Mister said he maybe wished too hard for a mild winter.

We know that things are gonna dry out for a bit in BC while the thaw continues in much of western Canada. Models are showing some wild disagreements today about what comes after that, there's a signal for colder air once again but so far that hasn't materialized much all winter here.

It’s another misty, mossy, mushroom Monday here. My favorite. Hope your part of the world is just how you like it. #MushroomMonday #MossyMonday #optoutside #photography #getoutside #pnw

I think we need to add #MOSS Monday into the Art Challenges Mix. Here are some very heavily moss covered branches from the #Forest. #PNW #WhippleCreek #RidgefieldWA #Photography

Since I would be listening to it in a pnw rain forest while it's raining, I'm looking forward to that haha

Steadily getting better, and managed a little hike this last weekend! Elk Falls was beautiful, and the company was even better <3

A very tall #BigLeaf #Maple #Tree for #Stunday
This gorgeous, #moss covered, old growth maple must be at least 100 ft tall. (You can see a 2story home in the background and the tree is about five times as tall). It grows on the opposite side of the pond at the edge of the forest. #PNW #Photography
